Hey Saris,

That event was not planned (to my knowledge). After the second to last update there happened to be a lot of guys on the US server and they started a drill. Just watch your Steam notifications to see what friends are playing War of Rights. Tends to be if there is a sudden surge in activity, a drill or "skirmish" is about to go down.

Another good idea is too keep an eye on the Steam Group. They will post an announcement if they start a drill event. If you haven't joined the War of Rights Steam group already, here's a link: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/warofrights . Anyone can sign up for it.

The depth of field should only kick in if you are directly looking at objects close to you. If you are just looking into the general distance, it shouldnt affect anything.

Look at all that trees and tents. I understand this feature when you are aiming, but in other situation it isn't realist. My eyes aren't a camera.

Good to ear you are working at. The effect is pretty cool, yes, but remember eyes are not cameras. The real problem with this feature is the lag between the moment you are aiming something and start watching another thing. This short time during the feature adapts isn't natural for our eye and very unconfortable. Personnaly, i would be glad if Depth of Field would be an option in the settings like David Dire said.

Indeed we did. we had talked about what the soldiers had to do. like walking a couple of miles tired Burn't out and malnourished. And you said if i could compare and give you good reasons as to why i think we should you would. So i told you that compared to what soldiers face now, We currently have it harder especially if you look at where we are fighting and how we are. New doesn't mean better.

I also agree with the weapon sway, more when I begin aiming though. A little is fine but it can sometimes take me 30 seconds to have it near ok to fire, I and my men would be dead by then when attacking an entrenched enemy.

It also sways in a peculiar way. If I'm aiming in front of me, IRL even, my weapon isn't going to be way out on the right.

Thank you for protecting people from themselves. You can say you want a steadier rifle, zoom and all that because it's easier to hit enemies, but when that's implemented it comes back and bite you in the ass, and the same people complain about being picked off by accurate rifle fire time and time again. This is one of the key features that will separate the skill of the individual riflemen as well as making fiering tactics meaningful for the different circumstances your company will find itself in, + the resenable sway and no zoom are also perfectly matching the realism and pace the game seems to be going for. You also got to think beyond the individual when your making a game focusing on large numbers of players concentrated in tight formations firing at each other. It all comes down to wanting the ezy kills or wanting the lasting expirience and steep learning curve imo.

We didnt get to show what the new bullet decals on wood looks like, so here's an image of it. I think they look super awesome! And the shadows inside them do of course change depending on the position of the sun, or whatever else lightsource is near them.

I've never read a civil war tactics book and i dont even know the 'formations' and firing manouvers ins and outs. But at 9:16 (ish) when they are doing the fire by rank, in a combat situation with a large regiment/company would it be better to have the first rank fire from right to left. Then while they are reloading the back rank fire from right to left and so on. That way there is constant fire opposed to the periods of no firing? - I assume there is a maneuver name for this if so what is it called and if not what was the downsides to doing this?

Essentially, a file is the opposite of a rank: It would be any two people, always infront/behind the other.

Fire by file means each file, from the right to left, will start shooting. For example, the rightmost file will shoot when given the order, then the file to the left of them will shoot, then the file to the left of them shoot, and so on.

There is no problem with having a lack of knowledge samblues, that happens to be the whole purpose of making this game in the idea of helping people get a grasp of what it was like to fight in the Civil War era! As to your question, the order of firing by files was usually done with at least a full company of one hundred men, let alone when it was used by several companies or a full regiment. With just a company featuring fifty men in each of the two ranks, you are definitely able to keep a steady rate of fire going. Even with the good numbers of people that came to the event in the video, it is for the most part still definitely possible.

I've never read a civil war tactics book and i dont even know the 'formations' and firing manouvers ins and outs. But at 9:16 (ish) when they are doing the fire by rank, in a combat situation with a large regiment/company would it be better to have the first rank fire from right to left. Then while they are reloading the back rank fire from right to left and so on. That way there is constant fire opposed to the periods of no firing? - I assume there is a maneuver name for this if so what is it called and if not what was the downsides to doing this?

If it was a smaller group (i.e say two ranks made up of ten per rank). If the front rank fired from right to left alone (no inclusion of the back rank) would it still be called fire by file? or is a file the man infront and the man behind - If so what would firing from right to left be called if it was only a single rank? - front 10 fire from right to left (or left to right whatever is correct) and then back rank do the same once the first rank has finished - that way there is no lapse in fire shown in the video, what would be the command shouted to commence this?

- asking for a gameplay/battle perspective but i understand if this wouldnt be done with that small number of people in real life but if this battles in this turn out to be like Nap wars there will be smaller lines and bigger ones.

I do not believe firing by file, only one rank at a time, is an actual drill, though it could be easily ordered by just adding "front rank" to the beginning of the command.

Example: "Front rank, fire by file, ready, take aim, commence firing"

Then once they reach the end, give the same order to the rear rank.

Note that in the fire by file drill you'll usually hear "commence firing" rather than "fire."

A thought occurred to me that the tinnitus effect should not really begin to occur until the ears are placed under stress through a constant barrage of firing. It would seem overly forced if it were to happen through the firing of only a handful of muskets; better to have the effect increase in intensity over a prolonged firefight.

They will be limited based on percentages we set for each regiment and not set numbers. This enables us to get as close to a proper unit firearm composition as possible across different sized regiments. :)
