View Full Version : Scoped Target Rifle
I've been looking at the Kick-starter page and i'm wondering:
Is it only people who buy the specific Tier with the Target rifle that get it, or do higher tiers also get access?
The reason i'm curious is that it could genuinely be a Game-changing Weapon and i'm wondering if/how they'll be limited (1 or 2 per team, limited Ammo?) and if they can be 'assigned' to other Players without that Tier (like a Person with it unlocked wants to Command that round and there's an option to let someone else have it).
I'm also curious about something else, the LOD in Game. This doesn't present such a problem with iron-sighted Weapons as the two sides are fairly evenly matched, but with a Scoped Weapon you'll have Foliage etc quite visibly fading out and stuff looking bad at range. The ARMA series counters this by having it so parts of Players bodies that should be concealed by Foliage aren't visible to people looking at them past the render distance:
1961
Not perfect by any means and arguably it achieves the opposite effect as it looks weird and some would say makes Players stand out more.
I'm just wondering if the Devs have put any thought into this kind of thing Given how big the Map is in WOR and if they've come up with any good solutions to counter it.

first you get the scoped rifle as a lieutenant general. I only know a handful of this tier and higher. let us use the imaginary number of 30 with this tier and higher
second you can only use this rifle as a sharpshooter.
so let us build a imaginary example for a battle.
server slots (imaginary) 500, server is full
30 of 500 could use the scoped rifle.
15 of them play as sharpshooter balanced to both sides.
so on one side are 8 guys of 250 with a scoped rifle.
he and his skirmish comrades ( +20 men without scoped rifle) fight against a similar troop of skirms
don't forget you can hit skirms very hard with cavalry and there is already no man born who could tank a cannonball
I think it will not influence the game.
and in my opinion there will be more events to the same time so the number of possible scoped rifle users will decrease

Let's also not forget that scopes back in the civil war are nothing like the scopes in use today. Their magnification levels and the quality of the lenses were not the best.

There is no need for people to see this as a problem or a game changer, because of what the gents over said, and because of the ticket system, reload time, the fact that these rifles was really heavy and had to (optimally) be fired from a prone position or have it lean on something. Despite all this I cant wait to use it with my sharpshooters :D

Cry-Engine, 500 people? I'd say realistically it'd be like 100 or something like they have in Squad, so hypothetically if all the Marksmen (30) decided to come out one day that could have quite an impact, no pun intended :D

The first thing I thought of after posting this, I suppose it won't be as much of an issue as I thought if the scopes are only 2x Magnification or something.

Didn't realise they were that heavy, but that brings up an interesting issue :: if people have to Prone to fire these and Foliage is rendered at close range, the Person firing will have their view obscured by Grass while someone across a field will be able to clearly see them.
The reason I bring this up is because it leads to people doing annoying stuff like intentionally using low detail configs to gain an advantage (so foliage doesn't obscure their view and visual effects don't impair their vision at range so much).

Nah man in another thread, i forget which one, the devs said all players would have access to a scoped rifle just not the model offered to backers.

They want to try an implement a game mode with a large amount of players. Considering the smaller game mode which is skirmishes is going to be around 64 players I would not be surprised if the historical battle game mode is going to be 128 players +.

so the whole discussion is unnecessary ;)
@r21
it was just a example. if the number of players were so small there would be a limit to the snipers I think
