Also called 1st Confederate Infantry and 1st Tennessee Volunteer Infantry (Prov). This unit should not be confused with a 1st Tennessee Infantry that served in the Western theater under Gen. Braxton Bragg.

Records filed as 1st (Turney's) Tennessee Infantry Regiment. Organized at Winchester, Franklin County, TN, April 29, 1861; mustered into Confederate service at Lynchburg, VA, May 8, 1861; surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse April 9, 1865.

Served with the Tennessee Brigade(Archer's Brigade, Heth's Division, A.P Hill's III Corps, Army of Northern Virginia at the Battle of Gettysburg.

And it shouldn't be confused with the Union Tennessee Regiment either.

Glad to have the 1st Tenn of Archer's Brigade with A. P. Hill's Light Division. They fought ever major battle from Mechanicsville to Appomattox.
