I thought it would be a good idea to compile a list of websites and sources people could use when trying to create a company and learning about its history so if anyone has any good sites or references post them here. I'll start,
If anyone is interested in the history of Louisiana units during the civil war or want a good source to form a company I recommend the following,

http://www.acadiansingray.com/ List multiple regiments and there history and list the companies in each regiment but doesn't go into to much detail about the companies.
I also highly recommend the book Lee's Tigers by Terry L. Jones, it's a great book that goes into detail about the LA regiments in the Army of Northern Virginia, and their accomplishment throughout the war. I'll post more info as I find it.

Good idea:

Here is the short official histories of the union regiments: about 747 pages of it
https://archive.org/stream/08697590.3359.emory.edu/08697590_3359#page/n999/mode/1up
Start on book page 997 (browser page 1004)

Nice find, is there any equivalent confederate book?

Here's another website detailing some information on different battle units (from both sides). It also lists all the soldiers that served in them: http://www.nps.gov/civilwar/soldiers-and-sailors-database.htm
