Hello, Cleburne here
I like reading up into regiment's a lot and wanted to know the favorite's of everyone in the WoR community
Mine are: Federal: 72nd PA, CSA: 14th AL, 15th Arkansas (Josey's), or the 26th NC (I can't pick XD)

I was wondering when a thread like this would pop up.
For me it's
Union: not sure. C.S.A: 9th Louisiana (and all other LA troops in the AnV), and Richmond Hampden Artillery (Boy Major's unit)

I don't think anyone will disagree with that. We also had some pretty horrible ones though.

Always liked the regiments from the Irish brigade and the 14th NYSM. Really I like most NY regiments, but then again I'm a New Yorker after all. ;)

My favorite ofc is the 28th Iowa Infantry, follow by the Iron Bridge of the West, Irish Bridge, 15th WI "Scandinavian Regiment" and for the rebels, its the 33rd VA, and any NC/SC regiment since 2001, I'm a North Carolinian.

I'm still growing my knowledge of units in the ACW, but so far my favourites would be the immigrant companys who fought on both sides as a means of proving their loyalty to their new home states.

Zouave units are also a favourite of mine because the uniforms are so phenomenal.

Thusly, the original Louisiana Tigers, who were many Irish dock workers, are certainly up there as favourites.

Tennessee Orphan Brigade, is another favourite, as were Mississippi University Greys. And I give a nod towards the hardly Texans and Virginians as well.

My favorite regiment is the 24th Georgia, most of my Irish ancestors were in that unit and of the 14 that went off to war only 3 came back.
As for my favorite federal regiment, i'd have to say that i like the 1stMN mainly because that's the unit i currenlty play with in North and South. if i couldn't pick them i'd go with the Iron Brigade

19th Indiana because I am from Indiana and they fought in the cornfield at Antietam and held the line at Gettysburg long enough to allow for rest of the Union Army to arrive and win the battle. In Gettysburg, 272 went in, 78 came out.

I am a bit biased but 5th Alabama, or all of Rodes Brigade, and 2nd Florida or all of the Florida Brigade. Although, its late and I could probably list far more including South Carolinians and Mississippi Regts. At some point I might for what it is worth.

I don't have favorites, but here are some notable ones.

Federal: 2nd Rhode Island Volunteer Infantry

Rebel: 2nd, 5th, and 8th Florida (Because Florida rarely gets any recognition)

The Fearless Hussar

for csa i'll go for a regiment most people probably dont know the 33rd Alabama. It had (i think) the second highest percentage of casualties in a single day's fighting among all units in the North and south(after the 1st texas which suffered 82.3% at sharpsburg) during the battle of perryville. It suffered 82%casualties which is the same Number of casualties suffered by the 1st minnesota during their assault in the 2nd day of the battle of gettysburg. It is also one of the few units of the war that we have some more detailed Information about it because of several accounts that were written by the soldiers of the unit during the war. Not to mention that it was serving under Major General Patrick Cleburne in the west who is one of my favourite confederate generals.
for the Union i'll go with the 1st Minnesota.
