View Full Version : Why have you decided to support War of Rights?

I have decided to make this thread as I am interested to why people have decided to support War of Rights or what made them interested in the Civil war in the first place. If there has been a thread similar to this or is in the wrong section, I apologize and please do close this if needed.
Me personally, I have been interested in line battles for about two years now (not long I know), but I really did enjoy watching re-enactments and I have been interested in the time period as well as how people were trained, drilled, etc. The invention of new ways to fight on the battlefields such as the first use of grenades by grenadiers in the mid 17th century and the use of dragoons, light infantry, etc. also helped push my interest. When I first discovered this game, I was kind of interested due to the reasons stated above since the Civil war saw use of many Napoleonic tactics thanks to figures such as Mahan. Many of the General officers on both sides of the war had received their military training at West Point. At West Point all cadets studied tactics under Mahan, the professor of engineering and the art of war from 1830-1871. Having studied the art of war in France Mahan was greatly influenced by Napoleon and would pass his fascination with Napoleonic Warfare on to his cadets. I have been following this game for about a year now and only decided yesterday to buy it as I kept forgetting, also, when I decided to watch Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" (Even though there was not much fighting it in), It still gave me that push for me to start looking more into the Civil war as well as pledge to this game.
What are your reasons, please do post below :D

I myself have always been fascinated with different tactics and strategies employed in certain situations in war. They always compare war to a chess game, I'm not big into chess but always get a great satisfaction when I have outwitted my enemy on the battlefield in games. When I lose a battle I always find myself constantly thinking back on it as to what I could of done differently and what was the winning strategy for my opponent. These types of games have always been modern war games.
Actually up till February of 2015 I was never interested in the civil war or even the Napoleonic war. I only got interested in both because I saw the movie "Field of Lost Shoes". Which if those reading don't know what that movie is, it's about the story of the VMI (Virginia Military Institute) cadets who were Bought into the service of the Confederate army when they needed men for the battle of New Market because they weren't sure if other regiments they sent for would arrive in time for the battle. After seeing that movie I got interested in the civil war and the tactics employed of course. So quickly after starting my research I found that they still used the Napoleonic tactics for the most part. My curiosity of the Napoleonic wars also made more ferocious when I stumbled upon the British tv series "Sharpe".
So with all this going on and my love for gaming I quickly joined a North and South regiment. Which is were I learned about War of Rights. I didn't support it at first but when I looked into it more and more the thing that stuck out to me the most was how big the maps were going to be. So I quickly thought back to the game of Arma which made for me many fun moments because in my mind it was the big map and thus all the different opportunities for different missions using sections of the huge map, and made for a realistic experience when I would be part of a group that would have to convoy in or march into the mission zone. So I ended up donating to the game for more immersive hope, and outwitting my opponent hopes.

About five years ago, I started Living the civil war after my grandfather took me to Gettysburg. So for about five years I've loved learning and studying the Civil War. And not long ago I joined up with a NaS Regiment and not long ago found out about this.

Because Cube210 and Greydog made me.
No really, they held me hostage until I gave up a couple of quid to support the game.
But also because it looked like a bit of fun and I'm kinda interested in US history.

I love community driven games; or at least games in which communities have the room to thrive. I think WoR satisfies both of those.
I play Mount and Blade and Arma, both games with lots of clans and community driven events, but WoR is the first game in which I've seen such a high level of support for the community gameplay from the developers.
The company tool is a great example of that.
All in all, this game has a huge amount of potential

Always have enjoyed historical shooters, as well as military history in general. I live in Greensboro, NC, right in the middle of a battlefield fought over for the Guilford Courthouse during the Revolutionary War. Always been interested in that era.
Never sought to much into the civil war, but after discovering the game, I am learning as much as I can. Even planning a trip to Antietam with wife and kids very soon. 6 hour drive. Have watched some good videos on youtube on the Civil War as well. Really getting into the history.
It is also going to be cool, to be able to have a game, that was fought right around where I live. Most historical games I am into, or have enjoyed in previous years, are in Europe. (Verdun, Brothers in Arms 1 and 2, Rise of Flight, WW2 online way back in the day, etc....)
Looking forward to joining some people to play the game as it is designed. Looking forward to the community.

I share a love for history, specifically the times when formations were always used during battle.
Which is why I display an amazing love for games such as ''Total War'' and the ''Mount & Blade'' series.
I thought that if I pledged I'd get a bunch of brilliant tests to take part in, and I am hoping to not be disappointed, but judging by the recent videos giving a very insightful tour of what we're going to be part of.
I was interested in the Napoleonic Wars from a young age and being British and all I found studying about my country fighting Napoleon, and all the different aspects of the war interesting from artillery to cavalry and to the common foot soldier in which I have family that took part in the war. The civil war became known to me when reading history books and the interest I developed was that this newish country heavily involved with slavery had finally turned on each other after differences had gotten to the point of no return. Just like the English civil war it had families turning on each other and brother’s vs brother or brother vs father or brother’s vs father, but also the new technology that was used in terms of rifling and new advancements in cannon all interested me. After some time, I heard and saw that a company was taking time into making a game about a topic that is barely covered in game history except for the little ones like Ultimate general: Gettysburg that involved the player in the heat of the moment in the thick of the action spoke to me on levels I didn't know existed. After deep consideration my wallet like Gaben has done before was emptied into a new game that deserves the money and support.
Sorry this was long could have gone even longer and wrote a story but now I am just blabbering on sorry.

To be honest there's a big long list of wars I find more interesting but I enjoyed playing napoleonic wars and this doesn't seem too dissimilar. Plus it's a gr8 team making the game

BILL HORAN, this name must be written with gold and diamonds, of course films like Glory or Gettysburg change my interest in ACW and a FPS with this quality did the rest

War on itself is a very interesting subject for me. I like reading, watching and playing about wars.
WoR is a game that is focused around the ACW and i really like the ACW. It is a war that is not like many other wars (country vs country) but more like you see now a days in Africa (government vs rebels forces).
There are not many other games that let you play in this war as a single soldier so to play as a ACW soldier, blue or Grey is just very interesting to me.
That is in short why i support this game.

Because of my love for history and this is a pretty unique game hoping it leads to a napoleonic one. I also liked how it said they want hundreds of players to me anything less than 200 v 200 will be poor

Yup! And we need something to be it's sucessor.
Probably going to be a loong time until Napoleonic Wars 2 comes out for Mount & Blade Bannerlord. So this is a perfect game to play in the meantime.

I think it is silly cuase they used breach load rifles in the 1850s during the Crimean War then in the 1860s Americans are still using muskets

You decided to support WOR because you thought that it was silly that 1860's Americas were still using muskets?

They used breach loaders during the war, and they had repeaters very early on, the weapons were expensive though, thats why they weren't very common.

While growing up in Florida, my school focused a lot on the Civil War, even though it was wild and untamed at the time, Florida played an important part in those uncertain times. Florida is where the cattle for the Confederate soldier's food came from, Florida was the sight of a handful of skirmishes, an example, the city of Jacksonville being taken by Federal troops, then the Federal troops up and leaving, only to come back and take it again, this went on three times. A book required by my school's curriculum was Patrick D. Smith's A Land Remembered, an amazing book, describing a family of poor Cattle Drovers as they strive to make it in the Florida scrub, until the last member becomes a successful Real Estate tycoon, told through three generations, starting in 1863 and ending in 1968. If you have not read it, I highly encourage you to do so, but back to the main point.
Growing up with such a focus on the Civil War always made me want to experience this period in time first hand. This thought transplanted itself into one of the closest things to experiencing something like war first hand, video games, and while I've enjoyed the World War 2 games and the occasional World War 1 game, I have always yearned a good Civil War game, and when I saw War of Rights, I thought "This is it, this is what I've been waiting for."
Now with the game in its final stages of production, I cannot wait to jump in, and with all the attention to detail the devs put into their game, I think that this game will be one of the best I've ever played.
Sincerely

To be honest, despite now knowing much about the civil war, the main reason was that my preferred games are first-person-shooters, however I'm getting tired of running and shooting almost non-stop.
Weeks before I saw this project on Kickstarter I bought ArmA 3 and it felt nice to have something different, something more slow-paced. I don't know the right words to say it in English but it's ironic that I found ArmA 3 an FPS that I could relax (if this makes any sense), and as soon as I saw War of Rights, I said to myself "A game where someone is commanding me, no running, patience and strategy? I'M IN!"
The other reasons are being more cultural not only with the history but also the weapons used.
Who am I kidding, the main reason, obviously is to be the FLAG GUY!

For many reasons:
It's a great concept with a LOT of potential to be the most realistic War Between the States game ever.
I love the history and the gaming.
Also with the sudden anti-Confederate anything, as a Confederate Son I feel it is my responsibility to ensure the history and legacy lives on.

I have always been a fan of historical games but always have been the commander telling troops what to do from the sky. To actually stand there beside soldiers and fight with them or command them in battle would be the greatest thing ever.

I was forced out of my home after the battle at Harpers Ferry and with no where else to turn to, I decided to enlist.
jk... I've always been a big fan of Historical Games and being an avid player of the Total War Series (Mostly the ones with muskets and guns) it's always peaked my curiosity of ethics, culture, lifestyle, etc. that existed during the period.
Also uniforms are cool. Super cool.

I was re-reading Bernard Cornwell's Richard Sharpe series and was digging around in my game box for the Take Command 2 CD when I thought it'd be cool to play as a company captain, first person, in a line regiment. I Google'd, found WoR, then decided I'd like to cheer on a studio that's bucking the trend for FPS. Stonewall Jackson and I share the same hometown so I've always had an interest in the Civil War, particularly the Valley Campaign.

I've always been interested in the Civil War, especially how the Confederacy survived so long with so little compared to the Union, who had vast advantages in almost every category except for military leadership.(Being from Virginia helps, as the Civil War didn't just divide the country).

Because the way mount and blade is currently is just cancerous The Civil War mods and Napoleonic Wars are dominated by either servers with stupid rules or by people who are in my opinion toxic to the game at large. The only way to get any sort of consideration in some of those servers are a text book case of "Not who you know it's who you blow." and small units like mine who can field a decent number of people are usually thrown to the wolves if anything goes wrong. I am hoping this won't become like those games were a couple regiments are the lord gods and masters of the game and anyone else be damned.

I admit that I'm not a huge Civil War Buff but it would be a lot of fun, different story line since we are Australian, a lot of teamwork and honestly I love the functions and game mechanics for it and am very hyped!
Plus NW was very toxic and malicious intentions and backstabbing was common which 4RAR strives to protect our members from which is why we don't take part it in, alogn with a number of other reasons.

I personally have a great love for the Victorian time period (CW, Texas Rev, etc...) but I especially love the Civil War, and have been waiting for a game like this for years. I am a Civil War reenactor, and I want to be able to reenact virtually, without the pains of the field.
