I also have to dig up Clint Eastwoods 'Unforgiven' again :) Where 'English Bob' (the late Richard Harris who also played Dumbledore) is quite the character.

Hello all,
I have been following WoR for around a year now, but after I watched some videos of the stress test, I had to back it.
I was a Civil War reenactor for about 4 years when I was younger, but had to stop due to life. So I've pretty interested in the historical accuracy of this game.
I am looking for an outfit to join.

Hi guys!

I've seen some gameplay of WoR and it looked awesome, considering it was still in closed alpha. I remember buying the History Channel's civil war game years ago (probably some people here played it as well) and even though I'm about as Dutch as Dutch can be the civil war has always been of an interest to me. That being said, I am probably a big ol' noob and don't know much about the civil war to be honest, but I am looking forward to playing the game and mixing in with the community. :D

Morning gents,

I've been watching this game for quite some time, it hits a niche I've been waiting for and the latest gameplay pushed me into buying it at last.

As a bit of an armchair general I have to confess that my knowledge regarding the American Civil War is definitely more at a macro level, although I feel I have a decent knowledge around tactics of the era (admittedly with more of a focus on the Napoleonic wars) I really am looking forwards to getting more down into the nitty-gritty of it all.

So if there are any companies out there looking for a volunteer from all the way in not-so sunny England give me a shout. Oh and although I know that there were a number of British volunteers in the Yankee army I'm going to put it out there and say that I'm willing to be a bit of a mercenary and consider fighting for the CSA.

Cheers!

Not sure where to post this, but this seemed the best place overall. What I am especially happy about, is the Developers are listening to its people. I cant count how many times I start a new site and JUST give up on what they have, because the Developers change the Game play, and only listen to what the Moderators have to say as if they have some special gift of what everyone wants. I.E. World of Tanks, all was fun, though I didnt like the 15 min round per game, It was the introduction of the GOLD ROUND, that 1 hit wonder shell, that always BLEW ONE UP, that made me QUIT. The World of Ships, once you figured out a ship and Got really TOO GOOD with it, the guns get DUMBED DOWN, so you can no longer hit the barn wall while inside it, thus I quit that too. some games I cant get past the free to play introduction. Call of Duty, was more about that 1 player who racked up the most kills, in 15 min of play, not a TEAM EFFORT. This War of Rights, though ALPHA MODE, has all the makings thus far to be the #1 game of all time. surpassing games like ARMA, and so many more, thats my thought.

The Aiming sway will soon be gone, changed, for this NEW Changed effect now will keep players away. when The best gun in the game will be the 1842, for its shotgun effect, no need to worry about aiming, point, shoot, drop 2. or that a shooting game has become a stabbing game. I was laughing so hard when, about 30 Yankees stood 25 feet in formation, from the, about 30 Rebels, as neither side really hit one another, with 3 volleys each, and charged each other. the Bayonet was the only thing that actually hit anyone. leaving 4 rebels left standing to see this happen AGAIN, and AGAIN, I just stood back and watched this melee, over and over again.

I wish to say THANK YOU Developers, and all concerned, this is a Team effort on all aspects. The best civil war simulator before this one, was Civil War Generals on windows 95. my opinion, and i looked at many since, and I didnt like what was offered.

Im sure as developers get pissed at people screaming and complaining about changes, of the game, as we gamers get upset with dumbing down of the game. when WE ALL LOVE WHAT THIS GAME HAS TO OFFER, with our support, were all in this together. once again THANK YOU.

Thanks - and yes you most certainly got the last part right. There's no need to write in caps and scream "game's in the gutter!" etc. during the alpha. Expect to see a lot more stuff breaking as this is what an alpha is for. My advise would be to camly give your feedback and do not get carried away with emotion about things not working the way you'd like them to (if you do playing the alpha is going to be a very tough ride for you in the long run). :)

the alpha is like a rollercoaster: it goes up and down and up again.

It's an unfinished game so for since it's only an alpha but it's a great one. I like to see the progress since the Drillcamp release nearly 2 years ago. So many features were introduces and everybody screamed "OMG thats shit it wont work" and after some test and tweaks it great now or got removed. I like to see how we go forward in developement and it's always exiting to read patch notes since nobody knows what comes next because we dont know the internal roadmap. Can be cool but can be frustrating. an topic for itself.

To come back to topic. It's only an alpha and everybody has to understand that we are testers atm and not players even if we think so because its enjoyable.

In the end it's a great game from a cool dev-team with and interesting community. Sometimes there are small fights but we all are here to make WoR great and want to go with campfire the road of development.

Trustyjam and Maximus Decimus Meridius and Leifr , and Developers, I admit I lost my cookies, LOL over that sway swing aim. Im human and thus cant take back that moment in time, I LOST MY COOKIES. I can rest assure that in the future my voice will be heard, I never for a second believed my voice would have been, So many game forums do not care what is said or wrote, and everything goes in one EAR AND OUT THE OTHER, as I always saw it. LIKE WOT, where people are a dime a dozen. dont like, they dont care they will suck in 11 more players right behind you (me). but eventually the people will completely disappear, so games like WOT will one day be gone. or have the same 15 players all the time.

I wish to extend my apology for having lost my cookies. But when one sees something to good to be true, its so hard to let something happen that shouldnt have ever been done in the first place. Thats why I had fun with the game and walked the entire pontoon bridge, knowing I would never have been hit. hey I was laughing about it. I was scared the aim swing was here to stay. I am glad now I must run my butt off if I want to make it to the end of the pontoon bridge once more, BOB and WEAVE, BOB AND WEAVE,. I find it just fantastic if I made to just under the RR at the end of the pontoon, to salute and die, LOL.

Im not leaving this venue and i will be less cap-full in the future, The developers are human too, maybe they saw that walk of mine, who knows, but it was funny. Again I apologize for a previous post I cant take back. to admit and error makes one stand taller, in the eyes of many. I am sorry. glad were all on the same page, you have no idea how refreshing this is. THANK YOU.

I know I have one now. I change in the company tool rank from private to Lt General also. in the short time ive been on WOR, I got 2 of my game buddies to join the WOR Team. and hopefully more to follow. As it is, I purely by chance, I saw this game online, a video by Cody. I was hooked from that point on. To say there is not much information about this game is an understatement. I was purely surfing the net looking for something else, lol when "WHATS THIS?" This looked so cool, War of Rights! WOW! You don't buy a rank.
The ranks you can pledge for are just a indication of the amount of money you pledged and the perks you will get with it.
You do not just walk on the maps and command people around jump into the drill camp and ask people if they want to practice with you.
People are friendly enough to give you a chance to learn the skills. I suggest falling in with other companies to see how its done.

You can try to make your own company that means you recruit people on the drill camp and try to build something up. Its not easy it takes time and effort.

Welcome to War of Rights! The captain pledge tier only shows what tier you bought for the game, there is no correlation with company ranks. The captain of the company decides when he wants to train his company members, just like a gaming clan when you have events. The commands are simple, since its only a game, the commands are easier/simpler than reenacting in real life. I would suggest following other groups and listen to their commands to get a feel on how other people do commands and would help you when you want to lead your group if you ever decide to start a company.

Say if i started a company what rank would i get if i started it and how easy would it be to recruit members?

All depends on your personality and dedication.
What kind of company are you trying to run? laid back or full on with the RP-factor?
Are you looking to have a NA or EU only company or mix it up?

Stuff like that is important. Its all worth the try if you keep a realistic out look on it all. Does not mean you will succeed but you can try and maybe you will.
Its all hard to answer since non of us have ever played the game with you.

There are events in the weekends (sat/sun/Monday) which means most people are active then :

EU : 15h30-16h o'clock EST (21h Gmt+1)

Start by looking at their recruitment posts. They usually will tell a little about themselves. Then talk to the company Captain or someone and maybe try to attend one of their drills before really joining. Then you can see how they do things. Most will be more than happy to have you attend.

I have another dumb question, sorry for all of the questions. But I've been watching videos on YouTube and I've noticed that every person has a different look. Are we able to customize our soldier, or is it picked randomly? Again sorry for all of the questions, but I'm a newbie and I'm trying to figure all of this out. Thanks in advance

Welcome.

The game is about the Maryland Campaign of 1862 (Battle of Antietam, Harpers Ferry).
The 14th Ohio fought in the western theatre (Kentucky, Tennessee), so you won't see the 14th Ohio in our game, sorry :)

Hello there is there like an option to play a quick match so you don't need to wait for the weekend to battle. Like an active lobby option? Also how do you join a company?

You dont have to wait till the weekend to play, weekdays usually get between 20-40 people on some nights. You can join a company by talking to them in game, enlisting on the forums threads or joining a company on the company tool.

There is no AI with this game, there is no single player option, it is strictly mp, so the only way to get into a "match" is to find a server with an population.

If you're suggesting an active in-game Ohio regiment is needed then I agree with you. When I visit Antietam the fields are covered with Ohio monuments at Bloody Lane where the 8th fought and near the Otto Farm fields beyond Burnside Bridge where the 11th, 12th, 23rd, 28th, 30th and 36th Ohio regiments fought bravely. Ohio troops played important roles in the battle and are under-represented and please know it's one of the reasons why I recently formed the 8th Ohio.

Thank you for suggestion A.P. Hill, I deleated my email. addy. I did figure out though 4 hours later to get back into WoR, by using steam back up and it did the trick. I dont know why I couldnt get back into the game, when it locked me out. On a good note I just placed the last installment to get General of the Army. to bad I cant get secretary of war though. I have so much praise about this Game. My enthusiasm for this is just beyond words. on a side note, I laughed when I saw Trusty Jam TKd the other night, kinda felt bad for him. there are a lot of trigger happy people who shoot before they look. Thus I tell my men, I command over, When In doubt, dont take him out. LOOK before you shoot. and when one needs to, send a runner to confirm. thanks for the laugh Trusty, Hope to see you again on the field of battle. The uniforms is the key here, Blue bottoms white shirt or blue top FIRE.... grey bottoms Blue top DONT SHOOT, so I find it a good tactic, when I have a blue top to get behind the enemy have em think Im just one of the boys and shoot em in the back, LMAO on command of a union officer To Fire. My boys and I have such a good laugh when We follow orders Load, Aim, Fire, and repeat. We drop so many sometimes One cant aim anymore, Laughing so hard. because people dont look at uniforms. oh well.

Hello Glory, well sir, Log into company tool, choose side and volunteer, then you will get a company invite, or as you play, you will get a personal invite by other players, as for the CSA 7th TN, all new recruits are given the rank of Private, not recruit status as in the way the game has it, for thats just not the way it was. Thats like basic training LOL and no one was referred as recruit. Its about your game play, how you interact, with others. if your in the 7th TN all is good, drill on sundays, and the only way to get kicked out of the 7th for sure, is being openly racist. Disrespectful to other players to the point of being absurd. people get upset by being TKd point blank range in line, but a second or third time , now theres a problem for sure. I get it accidents happens, haze of smoke. but not execution style with a pistol. now that person created a problem. it happens. people are people. if you see you TKd someone, just apologize and move on. and if it was a 400 yard shot when ya did it, Just say sorry about that, but what a hell of a shot, you may get back a nice comment about that shot. Ive done it, not knowing the boys moved up. kinda hard to see uniforms at that distance. welcome to War of Rights

Hi! I recently discovered this game, and am just blown away by what I've seen on youtube. It looks amazing. When I was a kid, my dad bought my Henry Steele Commager's "The Blue and The Grey", a set of 2 non-fiction volumes filled with letters and other writing from The War. I also had (and have since misplaced) a wonderful book, Philip J Haythornthwait's "Uniforms of the Civil War in Color". My university had an entire shelf devoted to an ancient copy (the complete set) of The War of the Rebellion, an encyclopedia of all memos and letters from the war. I had ancestors on both sides, but my direct ancestor was in Company K, 10th Missouri.

Hello. Just pledged for Captain and checking out the forum. Haven't seen any e-mail about how to add the forum badge so let's see what happens when I post here. I entered my e-mail twice and it said a message has been sent. None received yet.

Also had a question about the Company Tool's enlistment papers. Is it something that's meant for role-play purposes or does it actually work to find people close to you? Couldn't find information on that. Thanks!

Well, I think I must present myself.

So, I'm a 30 year old French guy, from Normandy, recently moved south in the city of Marseille for job reasons, working as a customer counselor for various companies, from bank and insurance to notary and telephony.

It means that I move very often and don't have much time to play.
But it's been a while since I wanted to give a try to this game, cause well, I love history in its largest scale; I tend to prefer Medieval eras and antiquity, but more modern history is also a thing I like. The reenactment was one of my favorite hobby.
So I'm here.

I am planing to discover the game further and maybe join a company. I like to play in teams and help if I can. I was in one as orderly corporal, back on M&T Napoleonic and Holdfast, so I know some tricks.
I don't know much about the American civil war but I want to learn and meet some interesting people.

Hope to see you soon in game or here.

Mr Lee, I do hope you are yanking my chain? Surely you're 18 with 57 years experience! There are plenty of companies recruiting and as long as you can attend a couple of Drill sessions on the server to get familiar with verbal commands you should be tip top. WoR is a perfect first person shooter for the older gentleman.

I can seem to figure out to start a thread, so I supposed I can post here.
I noticed people are playing the game. I supposed if I look I can discover how you play it. Outside of rise of flight, I have never played this type of game before. Do you use a "stick" to move around or mouse or both?

I noticed that most of the companies are foot infantry or dismounted units. Does this mean, this is the only branch you can play? If yes, does the developers have plans to add mounted and artillery units? My ancester fought for the 5th Co. Washington Artillery. His brother joined as well. We still have the badge from his uniform.

Thanks for your time,
Pike

At the moment only infantry and dismounted cavalry
Other branches are future plans for the game.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, the badge is in the possession of the other side of the family. The old lady that owned it altered it to wear as a piece of jewelry. My father his a Civil War dealer and he was appalled she had done that.
For those of you who do not know what I am referring to. You can see it here (http://www.washingtonartilleryuniformstandards.bravepages .com/brass%2004.htm). You will also see the WA belt buckle and the WA wore on the kepi.

Just signed up to the forum, I pledged the 2nd Lt level and have been watching the updates with a fair bit of anticipation, got to try out a few matches this morning and i'm already loving the game.

because I'm lazy i'll ask how one redeems the forum avatar stuff from the pledge? it wasn't in the FAQ thread.
Any tips on getting better with the rifle-muskets? I've been a part of the ACWS but as Cannon crew so didn't get to shoot the rifles very often.

Then just wait for early access, buy the game join or make the company of your ancestor. You don't need to specifically pay to be in a curtain company. You pay for the game and are free to join or make a company.

If I was banned for this I find it to be highly unprofessional to ban players who have a purchased a product and wishes to critique it.

Well I can't see the server anymore. It's the one that is online now with 120+ players.
The ban happend literally 10 seconds after I made my statement critiquing the game crashes that I experienced. So I'm fairly certain it was not an accident.

there were a lot of server issues and crashes yesterday booting mass groups of players or servers crashing themselves then not able to see in server browser, that could have been the case with what happened to you as it happened to many yesterday because I see nothing wrong with what you said to warrant a kick/ban from that particular server.

Yes it is and the game is great! One thing I would recommend is that you check the system requirements to make sure you can run it. There have been many people who have bought it just to find out they couldn't play ot.

If all those things are good for you and your looking to join a great CSA regiment I would love for you to look up the 6th LA and see if it suits your fancy.

If not you can still ask me a question and I will try to help or many of the others in the community as well. You will find there are many helpful players here

Drill camps. What's the secret about where the targets are or, why is it so hard to find them? For crying out loud, I just wanted to spend some free time practicing shooting and I went in three different drill camps all showing the firing range are west-ish of the camp, and I can't find any of them. Is it too much to ask that you have a firing range that doesn't take a compass, sextant and a Sherpa team to find? It shouldn't take all my stamina running around just wanting to practice shooting. I get you want immersion, but christ. Getting on my last grump, it is.

press "T". A symbol should show up which flies over the shooting range

I just wish WOR gave US the people, the OPTION of Pressing T key, leaving up names and information as LONG AS WE WANT to keep the information DISPLAYED, versus having to keep hitting the T key every 30 seconds. giving US the players the ability to turn on and off the T key attributes, or is this one of those WOR ways and dont ask again?

Yeah I am familiar with T. But in the three camps I was in T only showed me where the bayonet targets were, not the firing range. Like I said, to practice shooting, it should not be that time consuming to find the shooting range.

Hi there!
I recently discovered this game through steam and seems like the perfect game for me, however I've a few questions before I purchase. Apologises in advance if I'm asking in the wrong place.

I live in the UK and I imagine the majority of the player base is US. From what I've read the games seems most enjoyable when played in organised events. Are there may events held that accommodate for the time difference?

I see it looks like joining a regiment is the done thing but not sure how I would go about that?

Thanks for any help!

You are correct in that the majority of players are NA based BUT there is a very large EU base as well with many regiments holding events at EU friendly time frames mostly Friday through Monday. The larger regiments usually have other things going on during the week.

If you do end up buying the game let's me say welcome! And if your looking for a regiment try giving 13th GA a look see

Hi there. I am a huge history nerd. I caught a video of this game and it looks incredible. However, I have never played an online game like this before. I seriously have not played any sort of video game since probably 2005 on PlayStation. I have a few questions:

1) How hard is it to pick something like this up? What do I need in terms of equipment?

2) I have a very odd sense of humor. Is there a surrender option so I can show my character's true cowardice? Or can you be a traitor?

Thanks. This game looks super fun.

It is my first post here and must confess still not really tried to play (ok bought the game yesterday) only tested on an empty server if my PC is able to compute the ''programm'' (i think 'it' will do it!).

Finally i feel a little bit (also it is far time ago) like my first steps 2001 in the old game ww2ol, no singleplayertutorial, only get in and try... but it is not a bad feeling, perhaps unused.

Hello,

My name is Old Jack, I joined the forum some days ago, roughly a week after buying the game and playing 13 hours or so. I had the chance to play a game with Bradley, during which we manned a cannon with him and a good friend of mine I convinced to buy the game. I'm 35, from Brussels (Belgium) and US history/passion is a lifelong passion ever since American cousins came to visit when I was 6:-)

I'm looking forward to playing serious games (like drills, even if that means we don't fire a single shot) and I don't mind walking for 30 minutes to a battlefield and getting killed without firing a single shot (that was unfortunately a possible outcome for an unfortunate soldier). War of Right deserves all my respect for being a simulation for virtual reenactors, and not just another game for trigger happy fraggers. That's why I'd like to seize the opportunity to thank the devs, the researcher and the entire team for putting this ambitious project together. You guys are my heroes!

Thanks Bl1zzt3r! I forgot to add an important remark, but I don't know if it's the right place on the forum: I am very disciplined, eager to commit and my personal experience in Napoleonic reenactment (both English and French) gave me a good first grasp of weapon drill (which is not that different from the one during the Civil War). The thing is I miss it a little... and War of Right could offer a nice replacement during lockdown (and certainly after too:-))

After a certain number of hours, I would gladly appreciate to fall in with a serious group/company that takes historical accuracy with the utmost serious, which would mean:
-Reloading standing, instead of ducking (why do people do that all the time?? It makes reloading 8 seconds longer)
-Moving to the battlefield as a column, then forming into line of battle by left or right facing (ow my that'd be so cool:-) )
-Orders not limited to only firing, but also to movement ("dress", "salute", "shoulder arms")
-And a loud and clear "MAARCH" to punctuate these when it applies:-)

I would like to play as a Union soldier. I'd be happy to serve as a private, integrate and keep on learning (even in artillery). If the group could meet once a week that's enough for me, and I'm fine with French, English and German. My timezone is GMT+1. If you think I have the right profile and that I could be a nice addition to your company, please send me a private message. Thanks!:-)

Hello everyone, I'm new recruit to this marvelous game.
I'm still quite a "Noob" since I just have a few hours, but enjoying a lot the immersion! I have been many years mostly playing strategic games, such as Empire and Napoleon TW, also some kind of familiar games as Verdun or Red Orchestra.

A bit about myself, well as my nickname suggests i am Spanish. But sadly I'm quite familiar with war (the real not cool one ;( ) since I live and work in one as Humanitarian aid in The frontlines of E. Ukraine.

For now I'm very much learning but probably in next future ill like to joing some regiment :) Good day to you all, see you in the battlefields.

Welcome to the game!

We’re happy to have you be part of the community and thank you for the work that you do - I’m sure that it takes a strong character to be able to do so. :)

- Trusty

Hello

I bought the game 2 weeks ago on steam, it's awesome! But I have to report an annoying bug, but can't open a new thread in Bugs Section?

Thanks

regards

Hey guys, it's been awhile. I haven't been near this game in years. Cool to be back and see how much the game has developed over the years.

What can I say but WOW. I cannot believe I've never have heard of this game till today. I'm a huge Civil War buff and have been to almost every battlefield in the Western theater and to a few in the Eastern theater, with many more to mark off my list. This game scratches an itch I didn't know I had, thank you. The game so far is great, even being in alpha. Looking forward to see where this game goes and see the growth of it's community.

Looks like you made it to the Discord. I only rarely see anyone in the VOIP, if that's what you mean. Welcome to War of Rights!

I played Planetside 2, because my older son looks at alot of games mainly to see what is "out there," because he is a programmer. I got to be Friends with another player there, and watched him also play WoR and "had to" get it too.

How do I download Crap Cleaner; How is it employed? How can I tell Crap Cleaner has completed its work?
Thanks,

I used a product called: "PC Cleaner" but that didn't restore game audio to my WoR.
Is "PC Cleaner" the same thing as "Crap Cleaner"?

Thank you,
