View Full Version : The 'Should buy' Games thread

A few of mine:

Rainbow Six Siege:

This Game is genuinely very fun, the novelty of the destruction tech has yet still to wear off for me 100+ Hours after Playing and they've now reduced the price of it considerably:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/359550/

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-06-03-rainbow-six-siege-now-offers-a-budget-priced-starter-edition

for £11.99 (even with the imposed limitations on unlocking In-Game Operators) it is definitely still worth buying if you haven't already.

Company of Heroes 2:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/231430/

Great RTS, and this is coming from someone who isn't even that big a fan of the genre.

Miscreated:

Early access Game that seems to have a lot of potential:

http://store.steampowered.com/app/299740/

It can be a bit rough around the edges in quite a lot of places and the developers sometimes do rollbacks if a feature doesn't work properly, but from what i've played i've found myself enjoying it way more than the likes of Day Z etc.

Squad:

The makers of the BF2 mod Project Reality making their own standalone Game on UE4.

It seems like it has potential and definitely one to watch.

Any Games you'd recommend?

For me it depends on what you're interested in.

For a survival game without zombies, check out The Long Dark.

I like all the Total War games I own( for Empire, Napoleon, and Shogun 2 I have darthmod)

Silent Hunter 3 and 4 are both good games in my opinion.

The first two games are $20, and the third is only $10.

If you're looking for a good car/racing game, though not a realistic one, I suggest Distance (http://store.steampowered.com/app/233610/). It's a fun, futuristic "survival racing" game, as described by its store page.

If you want a good city builder/resource management game, and one with a pretty good modding community, Banished (http://store.steampowered.com/app/242920/) isn't a bad choice either. While it's less of a city builder than say, Simcity, as it is on a much smaller scale (Such as you manually giving people jobs, them constructing things rather than you placing them and magically finishing, and getting to a population of 100 is average) it's very entertaining.

Last but not least, my favourite of these three, LUFTRAUSERS (http://store.steampowered.com/app/233150/), a 2D, 4-button shoot-'em-up that puts many others to shame. Awesome gameplay even if it doesn't sound like it, as well as a very good visual style and what might be my favourite video game soundtrack ever.

My personal favourite of its OST: (Listen to it and you'll see - or, hear - why)

https://youtu.be/AL8-e0B6fcE

Though this doesn't play in-battle; what actually plays is this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NnAKPTa8K2E&feature=youtu.be&ab_channel=MisterPotatoman). It also intensifies as your health lowers and changes based on what parts you have on your ship; resulting in technically 120+ soundtracks in the game.

Verdun is a bit of a mixed bag for me.

For what it was when it was first released it was a bit of fun due to the sheer novelty (even though it just felt like COD 1 in a WW1 setting) but then they made it so all Nations could play together which kind of ruined a lot of what they were going for (Realistic WW1 Game).

Also the mixed uniforms, seeing a French squad in their red pantsed 1914 uniform next to a French squad in their horizon blue and Adrian helmet 1916 uniform. However I still find it to be a fun game.

Verdun is a good game! Very realistic (on historical side) and every month the devs improve the game with something new (weapons, maps, or graphic) :)

War Thunder- best flying Sim ive flown it, tanks are fun too, i have 5 US jets in the game (774 hours in the game)

Last and the best of all call of dutys, Call of duty World At war, didn't expect that did ya? the game is the oldest game i have on my computer but has to be the best still using world at war tactics and nothing futuristic,

i wonder what a civil war cod will be like if they made one....ill bet everyone will think they had hand held Gatling guns back then and muskets that fired 10 shots before you had to reload

Is it worth the money? I would pay ~20-25 for that no doubt but 40 seems steep.
Steam reviews I read said it's kind of a grind, and that devs aren't really taking community suggestions with grace.

Its not like Naval Action at all!

Naval Action = Every player has 1 ship.. and you play in huge 50 vs. 50 ship battles, with open map and such.

Black Wake = 2 ships.. with 20 guys on each ship

There is a HUGE difference and the Naval Action battles are way more fun ;)

I've seen that Naval Action on Steam and got really excited, apart from the un-exciting price. But when I've heard someone saying on the reviews that you spend hours sailing just looking for a ship to attack,my HMS Royal Hype just sunk.

BTW,didn't get exactly the fact that the game description says Naval Action is based on 18th century naval warfare, but you see screenshots of ships with the french tricolor flag.

And lastly, talking about naval games,do anyone here tried World of Warships and Steel Ocean? Which one is better?

I dunno. I found it quite tough at first, but easy to figure out. I've by no means mastered it, but after only 40 hours gametime, I'm much, much better than I was in my first game. The AI is a bit of a joke though, especially if you take off the historical focus thing, they just do the craziest things.

Scourge of War: Gettysburg. Add the expansions like Antietam, Chancellorsville. Then download all the custom mods for it.

But above all, it's the single best real-time tactical simulator I've ever seen, especially in multiplayer. The graphics have always been less-than-great. But graphics aren't why one plays the game.

We have a community of a few dozen regular players who use "Garnier's Campaign Mod" to play multiplayer games, typically one or more games per day/evening, in a persistent campaign style format. You all should really check it out.

WarThunder:
If you like WW2 dogfights you will love WarThunder
Price:Free

Rust:
Great open world survival fairly easy to play when you start on your own but more fun and easy with freinds
Price: £15 (currently on sale for £7)

Mount and Blade: Warband:
Very fun game a HUGE comunity, You can buy the Napoleonic DLC and play the many community made mods! Including North and South(American Civil War) and Festung_Breslau(WW2)

Unturned:
Minecraft, Rust, Ark Survival Evolved, DayZ had a baby.. Unturned is a FREE to play Survival Game, If you get this game you can buy a DLC for a couple of £ called Unturned GOLD, That gives you a golden username, More Skin, Hair and face customisation, It also gives you access to GOLD servers, IMO the DLC is best for changing your skin and hair colour to a dark green, Then looking for things at night, Because I did this once and 5 people were hunting me down all fully armed, I had only one machine gun and a few military drum magazines, And when I heard their car pull up I hid under a tree and they walked infront of me and not one of them saw me until I fired the first shot, I won the gunfight only being hit once, But luckily I had a medkit on me to stay alive! You can also build bases! Best to play with friends however a solo play is gonna be harder but you can do it. I recommend playing on a server that has loot drops.

Verdun:
Verdun is a FPS set in WW1 the battle of Verdun. You can go from a sneaky sniper in the back of the map, To a rushing flamethrower rushing into trenches!
Price: £18

Ark Survival Evolved:
Ark is a fun survival game set in the future where people have managed to bring back extinct animals, From Dinosaurs that went extinct 66 MILLION YEARS AGO to Dodo Birds that only went extinct in the 17th Century! You can be on two Islands, One called "The Island" and one called "The Center" (The Center is a free DLC). When you first join a server you wake up usualy on the beach and you scratch a chip placed in your arm, If you go into you inventory and hover over it you can see your own ID number. You can tame nearly EVERY single animal in the game even Megaladon!
Price: £22
(Note: This game performance wise is not very good, I have a medium range PC and can only play low, In order to play this game properly you need a medium to high range PC, Playing on low does not affect Gameplay, If anything I like it better because it is smoother.)

I would have a year or two ago, but now it's turned into a game were five people get killed by one guy who's figured out how to exploit the combat system by turning his sensitivity all the way up and twirling around like a ballet dancer.
And if you aren't getting killed by one of those guys, get ready to get killed by your own team members because the game is currently only populated by 12 year olds who only care about how many people they "pwned".

I do. It's a very fun game and the most different first person game I've played so far. And btw,the thing of being TKed is kinda normal, but not intentional,as you frequently find a teamplayer or yourself surrounded by enemies, and when you or your teammate tries to help, eventually you/him will get hit as well.

Now I want some opinion. Is ROME II a game worth to have if you don't know if you like strategy games, but likes ancient warfare and etc?

And about Insurgency, what should I get first? Insurgency or CS GO?

TW:R2 is alot of fun but it is DLC hungry if you like to play as the Greeks.

Concerning your second question, Insurgency is the more realistic of the two, whether you should buy it depends on whether you prefer that or fast-paced action, which CS:GO delivers more so. If you get the former, I recommend the Day of Infamy mod.

Just picked up LEGO: The Force Awakens, love these games just so much fun.

Ultimate General: Gettysburg is good, consider it a much more modern and in depth game than Sid Meier's Gettysburg.

Napoleon: Total War is still one of my all time favorites. Especially after adding DarthMod to it. Although I do like the North and South mod for Shogun, it still has a long way to go though.

Union Casualties: 32941
Confederate Casualties: 26112
Total: 59053

I got so mad at the stupid units. YOU HAVE 1500 MEN! HOW ARE YOU BREAKING! and also. WHY ARE YOU MOVING! I DID NOT TELL YOU TO GO THERE! WHY ARE YOU GOING THERE?! Dumb AI.
I would accept your offer SirDoctorProffesor but I just finished playing about 4 hours of it and am tired. Maybe in the future though.

I know what you mean, I've always had a love/hate relationship with the game. I remember when it first came out it was REALLY off balance, and I really don't think it ever became truly balanced and the artillery still has issues with targeting. I prefer SMG to be honest, but this was the first stand alone game developed by the person that created all the Darth Mods for the Total War series. I think he got in a little over his head.

I find the ai in UG Gettysburg to be very good depending on what setting you put it at. The artillery can be a bit tricky but once you figure it out, it works as it should.

No. I mean your units ai. They act stupid sometimes. Like they move without you telling them to. Even though they are not breaking. They always do this at a choke point in the Hook and I hate it.
