Singing Soldiers when marching?

Had a chat with Hinkel about this on FSE and the guys there thought it'd be cool, what do you think?

Me too, as long as the characters are able to yell some standard commands and of course the rebel yell i am happy. Are you planning some voice acting of characters as in RO2 ?

Our maps are all 4x4 km big. While that is most certainly a large area - it is still faily close quaters when you compare it to the size of the engagements of the war.

Alright, Hinkel seems to like the idea. If you have drums and fifes, not sure why the men couldn't sing along :'(

Singing does nothing but raise morale, in a game no one fears death. So yes, it's usless. I thought it be nice to have, adds to the realism and character.

Maybe some songs with lyrics for the soundtrack would be nice .I'm tired of hearing civil war songs without their lyrics.

I kind of see this like the idea for regimental mascots. Seems cool. If possible, add it at a later date, but don't make it a priority right now.

And as for Chewie, while I am not saying to the matter either way, I would not be opposed to their being singing in camp or on the march, were it not something that would be done over voice chat in game or in ts. Music was a very important past time and moral booster for the soldiers.

Why not have the same kind of thing that assassin's creed had with their songs. They can only be activated when travelling.

When marching, perhaps you can choose a song to sing; other people can then choose to sing along or not.

So an NCO can pick a tune, he starts singing and then the men have the ability to opt to sing along in a small pop up

Allowing NCOs to choose the songs! Good idea :D I can think of a few war tunes I'd love to sing to while marching!

I actually really like that idea, to have the NCO select a song. However, make sure the enemy can have the ability to hear these songs. You never know when a column might accidently come singing and marching right down a road you are picketed next to. That would be a funny sight to see.

A rider or Sharpshooter Company could locate a full regiment on the move simply because they heard them singing. Oh Hinkel baby. I can do some singing for you if you need :p

D d double post xD

Just had another idea for this. Going on the NCO picking the song many songs had a lead singer for the verses and then everybody often joined in for the chorus. Maybe once the NCO has picked the marching tune and starts singing and the rest of the men op to join in the NCOs down the file sing the verses then the full regiment sing for the chorus. If you pick the voice your guy can have it can match to the singing style so you've got bass and tenor mixed in the line.

That would need quite a few voice actors who would be willing to sing for no money. That dev is part of a re-enactors group so he could probably get his cronies involved.

Yeah when we all line up someone could start playing that music when the teams comes out, like dudududu dudududud dudud dadududu (ect xD) and then we can have a dude in a bulldog mascot uniform come out and then you hear "Who let the dogs out!" and he starts running down the line going "ROOF ROOF" getting everyone pumped up for the game xD
