Muzzleloaders- 1853 Enfield Rifle, 1861 Springfield Rifle, 1841 Mississipi Rifle, Lindsay Double Rifle ( a 2 shot muzzleloader), M1819 Hall Rifle

Breechloading Rifles (for skirmishers)- Burnside carbine, Sharps Carbine, Jenks Rifle, Tarpley Carbine, Gallager Carbine

Shotguns- Wells Fargo Coach Gun, Musket Buck and Ball, Colt Revolving Shotgun 1855, Perhaps a blunderbuss or some kind of fowler hunting gun

Target/Sharpshooting Rifles (for sharpshooters)- Sharps Rifle, Kentucky Long Rifle, Whitworth Rifle, Morgan James Target Rifle, Hawken Carbine, Enfield Match Rifle

Repeating Rifles- Colt Revolving Rifle 1855, Remington 1851 Revolving Rifle, Henry Rifle, Spencer Rifle, Winbusche Air Rifle (Lewis and clark had this, a 22 shot repeating air rifle that was the austrian standard arm for some time, they obviously got in america somehow and it'd be interesting so why not?)

Pistols- Savage Navy, Colt Navy 1851/61, Colt Dragoon, LeMat Revolver, Sawn-off Shotgun, Naval Caplock, Starr Double-Action, Lechaufeaux Cartridge Revolver

Melee Weapons- Bayonet (a given), 1832 Artillery Gladius, Arkansas Toothpick, Bowie Knife, Tomahawk, Calvary Saber, Officer's Sword, Gun Butt (when melee weapon is not drawn out, a weak gun butt melee is performed. replaced by a powerful bayonet on bayonet mounted weapons)

probably not all of these, but it'd be nice

and another thing, you guys are planning on having sharpshooters in game correct?

If so, the union sharpshooter needs a green uniform. The confederate sharpshooter, while not always bearing his own uniform historically, needs to look like some kind of hunter or frontiersman style guy. Perhaps a fur hat or something along those lines?

These guys got their act together. Basically everything you listed plus the sharpshooter stuff is in game. No need to worry about historical accuracy here. It is guaranteed.

oh really? Wow. Even the windbushce? What about the normal hunting guns used in the early parts of the war by sharpshooters (Long Rifle and Hawken)?

Hey there Emerald Archer,

I can indeed assure you that many of the weapons you listed will be included in the game. However, when it comes to things like the Windbüchse, I doubt that will be included, as I have never seen a single instance of it's use in the American Civil War, let alone in the Maryland Campaign. In any case, be not afeared, our selection of carnage-makers will astound and amaze!

so its not like its only going to be a few huh? Cool

and about the windbuchse, I hadn't heard of it being used either, but it was an interesting pre civil war period weapon. Somehow Lewis and Clark got a hold of one so I'm sure they had them in america in small quantities. Honestly I just thought it'd be cool, fairly silent, fast, repeater, etc.

There are reports that the Choctaw and Cherokee CSA units used bows on very rare occasion (mainly a man brought what he could, sometimes a bow). It'd be an interesting stealth weapon. Hiding in the brush and firing through the smoke on enemy units, plus a good ROF. Ehh I'm just dreaming here but it'd be cool

and will there be those native american units? Perhaps some buffalo soldiers? You had the Zouaves for Christ's sake I hardly think you'll forget them.

Is it safe to say the kentucky long rifle and hawken are confirmed? Or any of the two?

Good work guys

I forgot to add the volcanic pistol, what are it's chances?

Hey Emerald Archer,

Amerindian units were more exclusive to the Western armies, and were used as scouts primarily, though they did have their own units. A small exception to this was Co. K of the 1st Michigan Sharpshooters in the Army of the Potomac, and Thomas' Legion in the ANV. However, the former were assigned to the AotP just after General Grant was given command in 1864, and Thomas' Legion was not organized until the 27th of September, after the battle of Antietam. As for Buffalo Soldiers, that is a term that originated from after the Civil War, especially from the Indian Wars period and the Spanish-American War. There were little to no colored troops at the Battle of Antietam. The big push for the use of African-Americans did not really get going until the release of the Emancipation Proclamation. Frederick Douglas had been a huge proponent for their use, but yet again his plans did not come to much fruition until after the Proclamation.

With the two rifles you mentioned, I will say that neither saw much use in the Maryland Campaign. But, we will certainly look into it!

Please keep in mind that this game is less about making a fictional scenario about the Civil War, such as adding gatling guns that were never present on any of the Maryland Campaign battlefields, and more about representing the reality of the war and time period.

Like George said above, but I make it shorter:

The game is about the Maryland Campaign. You will see the units and weapons, which took part in this campaign. Nothing "what if" stuff :)

So there were some more important weapons you forgot, like the Lorenz Rifle or the smoothbore 1842 springfield musket. Those guns are way more important, cause they were used much during the campaign, compared to some other weapony you mentioned. But thank you for your suggestion :)

Well I see you know more about the history of the war and how it played out than I do. Kudos

I specialize in weapon history, it's just what I like the most (I think that's pretty obvious based on my post....).

Regardless I will be playing this game as long as it does not have a hefty price tag.

However, those rifles (Hawken, Kentucky Long) were used in the civil war a bit as they were the top hunting guns of the day, until the more expensive sharps came out. Many used their own hunting guns at the start of the war, especially in the south.

the kentucky long rifle was used most notably by early confederate sharpshooters. However there are examples of normal troops using them. Some were even converted to caplock mechanisms, like this one supposedly used by a man in the 11th Virginia Calvary regiment and was brought from his home to battle

http://civilwartalk.com/threads/kentucky-rifle-used-in-civil-war.82976/

He mentions further down that this man was a scout at first and was not sure if this rifle was used while he was a calvaryman. Supposedly that rifle was used in West Virginia, which was very close in time and geography to Virginia in the Civil War, so I'm sure they showed up somewhere. And I heard you guys have a Harper's Ferry map you're working on, well that's in current day West Virginia!

Just to demonstrate the accuracy of the kentucky rifle, Timothy Murphy, the first US sniper, shot a british general and one of his associates from 300 yards out of a tree with a kentucky long rifle (during the revolutionary war). They were the hunting gun of choice during that period and for a long time up until, like I said before, the sharps and others like it came out.
