connection when joining a server

when joining a server there is a column for connection. iv seen it anywhere from 98 to 224. was just wondering more about that and what it does. more specifically, the higher it is the better chance of joining? is it my connection to that server?

It is your ping and connection to the server. You want it as low as possible; geographical proximity to the location of the servers and internet connection quality will have the largest influence on ping.
