The UK election is nearly over now. What will happen next? Will Britain restore some of it's dignity, after brexit? Will the pound sterling recover? Will someone who's not an ass-hat end up in charge?

Oh, the answer to all of those questions is likely no BTW. It's more likely reverse D-Day happens (Allied Europe invading Nazi Britain) than any of the above happening. What with all the 1984 shit the current PM wants to enact.:o

Still going to be interesting to watch doe.

Boy, was this post cancer.

"Allied Europe" "Nazi Britain" I don't think us Americans have much say in what goes on in Britain just as they have no real say in what happens in America. As for Brexit, personally I see it as a move In the right direction, I haven't been under the effects of it so I cannot for certain say it's good or bad, bravescot lives in the UK and he doesn't like it, so I guess it is what it is. Speaking on the EU I don't see the coalition of countries to be working well as it currently stands many of them are divided among current political issues and it's slowly crumbling as the League of Nations did. But all in all it will be interesting to say the least to see what may come of Europe.

The point of reverse D-Day is that it's unlikely. I don't care about Brexit, that's said and done. Tis May's new idea for fighting terrorism that worries me. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/gadgets-and-tech/news/theresa-may-internet-conservatives-government-a7744176.html

Though the EU certainly isn't as stable as it once was, after the Austrian, Dutch, and French elections it's regained it's footing somewhat. I should also point out that Brexit was what started
It's near collapse in 2016. Hell if what's his face wins (the liberal party guy) Britain likely won't leave the single market.

first May should give police guns, they are no use if they don't have anything to combat attackers.

We could go all day listing off things that would have been more sensible to do than essentually declaring war on the internet. That would be like the US declaring war on Uraguay or something after Pearl Harbour.

I'm starting to notice a pattern here. Where-in a European leader accidentally commits political suicide when their special vote that was supposed to further their agenda spectacularly backfires. First Cameron, then Renzi, and now likely May. Whoever the next PM is they shouldn't do anything but pray they're spared.

Whelp it's official. We have a hung parliament on our hands. Theresa May is toast. Now it's time to wait and see who forms a coalition. According to many experts we may have just witnessed on of the largest political blunders in modern times.

Sorry about the double post.

Well, I don't know what media you use, but all media I've looked at has been covering it plenty.

Not so 'strong & stable' after all, I suppose. Considering what May has said in the past, especially about/to the EU, I personally welcome this result.
That might just be my Brexit-bitterness speaking, though.

It looks like you guys are Europe's most powerful nation now. lol

Also he's watching American news, we have our own never-ending train-wreck who's every action manages to out stupid the mind blowingly stupid thing he did last. That would be Donald Trump.

I like the direction this is going ;)

But jokes aside, I do not feel that strongly about the UK anymore. France and Macron are where I want Merkel to strengthen our relationships. If British politicians feel like distancing their country from the rest of Europe and cosy up to Trump, who am I to judge. Also, I think it's kind of pathetic for May to still talk about a 'strong and stable' government when the election brought the exact opposite.

POTUS might run your country into a wall (hehe, wall, see what I did there), but he's good entertainment for the rest of the world apart from Mexico.

Idk, I looked at CNN and they were covering it, so. To be fair, the Comey hearing was probably more important to the American public than the UK election.
Plus, Trump not tweeting is a major event, I guess :P

Wait a second, their plan is to try and get a trade deal with us? Do they realize our president does nothing but go on about how he'll only accept a trade deal if the US gets all of the benefit?

Yea I like when the UK voted yes for Brexit they were like long live the British Empire.... What Empire? Or we have gained our independence yet they seemed to be the most independent out of them all.

Nah May may have lost the majority but I bet she'll form a coalition with the Democratic Unionist Party from Northern Ireland. Gets us the majority.

She likely will, but she's still toast.

I agree, pretty shitty idea to hold an early election and barely scraping a majority with a coalition is even worse. Shouldn't of done it, she didn't have the charisma of Comrade Corbyn or the lad Farage.

The media gives no shit about anything but impeaching trump, during the Terrorist attack on Manchester they had news running down below while talking about trump.

Macron + Merkel are the dream team. With them in power, the "master negotiator and businessman" Trump won't be getting anything out of Europe :)

Personally I consider myself Jaffa
Jeffersonian Anti-Federalist For America
State's Rights and a return to THESE United States and not Lincoln's THE United States
Guess that explains my choosing to fight for The Confederacy against an overbearing Federal Government heh

Being a Yank I have to agree we haven't lived under the EU so can't speak to it directly other than to say ...
- I am never in favor of a coalition of Governments that asks one nation to Finance (with money, arms, etc) the others
- The ceding of National Sovereignty is never a wise choice
- PM May should shoot whoever advised her to make such a Bone Head move. Even IF she had won ... the optics would still have hurt her ... A Power Grab is a Power Grab and never looks good.

NOTE:
I am Honored to serve with such cultured Southern (and Northern, I guess heh) Gentlemen.
It is nice to see a Political Topic not degenerate into chaos and stupidity.
Good Luck to Britain and her uncertain future ... we feel ya. /sigh

Can somebody fill me in with the major points of the election? I know May won but I'm not sure what the controversy is.

She's not safe yet, many in her party are calling for her head on a platter.
