History

Organized at Camp Dennison on May 3rd, 1861, the 12th Ohio Infantry Company A served in the Army of Potomac, and fought in the Second Battle of Bull Run, the Battle of South Mountain, and the Battle of Antietam. They were then sent to Lynchburg, Virginia, joining Hunter and his expedition, before they finally returned to Columbus, Ohio, until 1864. By the end of the war, the 12th Ohio Infantry regiment sustained 455 causalities.
