Hey Guys, I was wondering since this game is all about realism will it have realistic damage? For example let's say I aim at a person and shot him in the leg, will that person limp or not be able to run, or if I aim at a person's head with a cannon, will that knock his head off? And along with that is it possible to get an arm or a leg amputated?

We will be featuring some sort of wound system and about detachable limbs, we have considered it and will definately look more into it :).

I also forgot to mention if there will be any type of bullet wound shown, for example I shoot a guy in the head, will I see a blood spot on his face or anywhere I aim and hit?

living in germany sucks. reason: as soon as a game gets a bit gory, its cut or censored or banned. so if you do make it gory, could you implement that as a free downloadable "Gorepack" that no officials have to know about? would be awesome!

Wouldn't a blood off/on option be okay?
SgtPepper

nope. in germany they bann stuff like that straight away. or make you cut it and i find it very hard to undo those cencor thingys. i think its the same in austrailia too. to my knowledge they have just as retarded rules concerning game violence as germany. so i would REALLY appriciate something like the downloadable gore pack

In Red Orchestra you have a imaging of a body if you get hit at the leg or at the hand the body part flashes.

one should assume that to be the case. but games like call of duty are rated 18+, but unlike in other versions, body parts stay attatched and there are no swastikas allowed, only crosses. left for dead 2 the same problem. especially with steam games its hard to un cencor the things. i dont know why its like that, but it pisses me off. i mean really, you could rate all the games 18 in germany as 16...just like in every other country on this planet except austrailia and germany

Not true! As an Australian, I can tell you that we'll happily roll around in virtual gore.
The government has age restriction, but they can't really enforce it well and stop short of banning stuff.
Besides, they only dispense jurisdiction on hard-copy sales, not digital.

Correct!
Most of our harsh laws have been removed and an 18+ law is being put into place (has been already in some states). Blood and gore with a medical system like amputations would be awesome for realism. And adding limb damage like legs and arms being blown off and bullet wounds even bodies being destroyed by cannons etc.

Therefor subject is still on topic, since we are still talking about blood and gore in the game and how we can tweak it region to region.

The thing is, if you live outside of germany, you're probably not gonna worry bout cencorship. So i just wanted to bring that up so everyone has the same game experience and noone is left out by not beeing able to see the whole package. Left for dead2, Call of Duty.... all games where every other country has a different content than germany. Unfiar :D
What i would really like in this game would be a new kind of medic. in Battlefield, you just heal people by standing next to them. If it were possable to have the medic class as a "special" class where you could actually rank up in experiance and then be able to treat wounds more effectively would be awesome. And also not just standing beside and "Healing" the victim, but rather having to choose the right instrument for the right job. iE with a bullet wound either use tongs to remove the bullet (Stopping a bleeding effect maybe), then brandy for sterilisation (stopping any movement hinderance) and then using a bandage to replenish the health? would something like that be possible?

Actually we are still perfectly on topic, if anything we are more on topic than when the thread first started because we deeper into the topic and are discussing what regions can have blood and gore and what regions can not or have a restriction on it. Therefore the developers are able to adjust the game to each region so that everyone can play the game :)

Hello Gentlemen :D
I would love to have a medicposition implemented in the game. That's my favourite position but ... i don't know any games where i have a deep medical system (beside of Arma 2 with medic mods or kinda stuff). But also ... I see a little complication in these "amputation-shooting-off limbs"-things. The Soldier can't fight anymore after he lost a leg or his arm! :/ On one hand we would need a system to have like 5 chooseable and customizable characters OR in every battle you just get a random soldier with your own equipment and rank.
But i hope there is also a good system with the weapons and medical treatment.
Well thats it so far :D
Keep up the good work, I would love to donate to this project but ... I'm just a student. 20$ won't help you that much would they? ;)

Hello there Skipper,
You might be interested in knowing that, unlike today's units where there are medics sprinkled in among the rank and file, back in the Civil War all medical personnel were part of a separate Medical Corps. You had the stretcher bearers on the bottom rung, usually being doctor's assistants; those not able to fight but still able to do something; and regimental musicians not needed for their usual duties. These men would go out and grab the wounded off the field on stretchers - oftentimes under the whiz of bullets. You had ambulance drivers in specially-suited wagons that the stretcher bearers loaded you and 5 to 7 others into, and then get carted to the nearest field hospital. There a frenzy of nurses and doctors would attend to you and thousands of others similarly afflicted as best they could with limited supplies and even more limited time. Needless to say, it would be very difficult for us to 1) implement a system such as this and in a playable manner that is fun and enjoyable, and 2) takes away players that can be soldiering about, which is the main focus of the game.
I can tell you that we are very interested in portraying the less than glorious side of war to the best of our abilities and limitations. However, we must also keep in mind that this is still a game, and we must make it one that people will want to play. That being said, we will try our best to implement things like limbs getting torn off should shrapnel or shell hit a group of men, and that is indeed part of the problem should you lose a limb in such a manner Skipper, that you are not able to do much good in a fight anymore! :)

It would be amazing if you could leave some wounded players on the map after that player has "Died". What i mean by that is instead of replacing the dead player with a body, you continually animate that unit even after the player has respawned. You could have the "spent" units writhing around, moaning, calling out to a advancing or retreating line of friendly infantry or even walking/crawling to the rear. I'm not in any means a game developer and i don't know what kind of stress this would put on the server but if you could do something like this you could reach a level of brutal realism never seen before in an online simulation.

I hate to disappoint all the blood lust here, but we're talking about large, slow-moving, bullets unlikely to cause high velocity spray. Sam Watkins, in his memoirs "Company Aytch, First Tennessee" notes that the blood came from the wounded in "perfect jets" and soaked the clothes of the man next to him. I wonder that this might indicate a wound to a major artery or vein. Studies of photos of battlefield slain show very little blood around the wound site. Modern gunshot wounds also produce little blood at the entry wound, but much more at the exit. Watkins also mentioned that blood flowed downhill at one battle in "perfect rivulets." One exception to the norm is in the case of head wounds. Fatal wounds to the head often produce copious amounts of blood from the eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. I've included three period photos of Confederate dead as proof. The first is a soldier around Petersburg with a head wound revealing the large quantity of blood that I mentioned. Second is a soldier at Gettysburg who has been disemboweled, my guess is that he is a victim of an artillery round. Despite the grievous wound, there is little blood visible on the surrounding clothes. Third is a photo of a soldier killed along the Hagerstown Pike at Sharpsburg. Notice the large tear in the lower left chest. A blood stain can be seen coming from it and flowing around the soldier's side. Despite the large hole produced by the bullet, there is relatively little blood. If this game is interested in a focus on realism, I have to urge a careful treatment on the issue of blood and wounds.

Yes. Watkins also speaks of this sound as a thud. One of the best comparisons I've read is like the sound of hitting a rug with a broom stick. The cracking sound would probably be a sonic boom produced by a high velocity bullet breaking the sound barrier, but minie balls are anything but super-sonic. I expect you might get some sort of splat as well, but I think this should be very low key. This is one of the sounds I do not care for in Battlefield 2.
[RG]Chewie

I would only expect to hear it when my character or someone within a few feet of me is hit rather than hearing the sound when i hit someone 150 yards away like in bf2.

Chewie;3334']I would only expect to hear it when my character or someone within a few feet of me is hit rather than hearing the sound when i hit someone 150 yards away like in bf2.
Probably so. Battles were an incredibly loud affair, being heard from miles away. Some citizens of Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Baltimore reported hearing the battle at Gettysburg. Pittsburgh is a bit over 140 miles (straight line) from Gettysburg. The cannons that my former battalion uses have been measured at 190db.
Not too cool, not too lame. Stick with realism.

Your idea sounds pretty neat. As you already remarked, you are not sure if the server with a lot of players can handle all the animations from the 'dead' bodies. Maybe make something like 1/3 of the bodies do animations ? Or an option in the menu's where you can switch it on and off ? I think Mount and Blade has something like that.

It would be awesome to make the game look much like a real Civil War battle. Like someone suggest, blood splattering when someone is hit. Bullet holes with a detailed injury around it. If you get shot with a cannon ball/gun, you have a chance of losing a limb. Bleeding out from being shot. Limping because you were shot in the leg. Having the wind knocked out of you because a cannon ball hit somewhere near you. Up-close combat with stabbing injuries.
And, a realistic physics engine. Not just normal ragdolls. Look at GTA IV/ GTA V with Euphoria engine.
Well, I'm not saying to implement Euphoria, because that would cost a lot of money.
But something like that.
If you could implement these features, this would truly be one of the most realistic simulation games.

Quite funny... well, the problem is, if you dont handle all the bodys as ragdolls you will need a really powerfull pc to handle it. Ragdolls are really livesavers. And because we don't got the source code from Crytek, we need to use their physics engine.
