View Full Version : Difference between wounded and KIA

Since the last update, I've noticed both faction's end screen have lists of the number of players dead and wounded.

What functional difference (if any) is there between a player that's been wounded and one that's been killed? Are there plans to integrate a crude medical system ingame?

Not to sound too corny or anything but I'm thinking something where the player can be knocked unconcious by injuries, be taken to the rear by other players and if their wounds aren't serious, such as a minor stab or bullet wound, bandaged and revived with a shot of whiskey (at the time, still prescribed as a medication) by a surgeon. From there, they are allowed to return to battle and avoid losing any tickets. If their injuries are too serious to be treated however, such as with a severed limb or wound to a major organ, they die and lose a ticket.

If you want to study a good medical system, ArmA III's ACE mod is probably the most realistic of any shooter game in existence, so it can definitely be done right if given the time and effort.

We have no plans regarding the inclusion of a medical system.

The preliminary casualty list is still a work in progress. When finished, it'll show statistics based on where you've been hit (torso/head = kill. Limbs = most wounded, some dead) as well as some text regarding the actions of the different regiments.

Headshots didn't always kill people. There's many a ways to be incapacitated. But the ratio is all that matters because nobody will really know how any of it came to be.

This fellow from Wisconsin West of Gettysburg went on to be a farmer afterword even though he was totally blind.

There's a lot of gruesome injuries that people survive.

It's a moot point I guess.

I'm quite aware. Take Gordon at the Bloody Lane for instance. :)

They tend to be fatal in the overwhelming majority of cases. Especially back in the 1860s when even minor injuries could easily cause fatal infections.

Is that MOH recipient Jefferson Coates btw?

Yes.

I've heard people say the best place to be shot was the head due to the way it was treated compared to other wounds. That may be an exaggeration. It's even possible that shots to the torso were more lethal but I'm no expert. Keep in mind these bullets didn't grow straight through your brain in all cases, though they could cause horrific wounds.

Perhaps we could copy Red Orchestra and have it so a wounded player's vision slowly goes black as he bleeds out and expires after a minute or so. Long enough to fire off a final round and perhaps share some parting words with friends.

"I am killed! Tell my wife and children that I died fighting at my post."
-Brigadier General William Barksdale, ANV Mississippi Brigade

"Tell [my parents], I died for my country."
-Private Jackson B. Giles, 9th Georgia Infantry

"O, God, have mercy on my poor soul."
-Private James Galbreath, 1st Tennessee Infantry, Company H

"I think the boys will miss me."
-Col. Edward Cross, 5th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry

"It's all up with me Favill."
-Brigadier General Samuel Zook, 57th New York Volunteer Infantry

I like it how you can currently voice chat a little bit after you go down. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not.

It is. A headshot (instant black screen instead of fading) will cut voice chat instantly off too.

I like that idea as well.
