These two videos popped up on my recommended a few days ago. It shows a whole bunch of uniforms that units from both sides wore. It gives the unit name and date for each one.

Quick bit of necromancy, as Phase II's out, so I can kind of walk in my 3x great grandfather's shoes now. Here's a private from his regiment- the Twenty Fourth North Carolina Infantry. From the Pinterest page of "Rob Keech." Does anyone know what the color of the stripes are? 9511
The official colour of facings on issue North Carolina uniforms was black, so it's highly unlikely that soldier is wearing an issued jacket, it's most likely homespun?

That'd make some sense- Daniel W, my ancestor, got some 23 dollars back (on being dismissed by the conscript act due to the fact that he was about 40 years old) for clothing "not drawn." By the amount of money for the clothing, I'm assuming it was a winter-jacket, but it may have been that he was lacking the whole jacket.

Here's the screenshot to prove it- right from his record.9517

NOT ORIGINALS, but very good examples of Louisiana State issued apparel. I really wish we had a tad higher density of these represented in-game, in particular the striped kepis.

$23 seems high for a single commutation but I might be totally mistaken.
I've been researching this a lot this year and you are not mistaken Brad. In 1862 each soldier was allowed $12 for the year in relation to his jacket. Full allowance was $74.

Interesting! So what do you figure could have added up to that $23? Jacket being $12, that leaves another unaccounted-for $11.

The Kepi is kinda off for a Louisiana soldier.

Well he recieved $23 back, which basically means he'd spent that amount of money above the $74 allowed. Which means he was buying his own clothing and not drawing it from the QM.
The Kepi is kinda off for a Louisiana soldier.
Well that's not exactly true. The Confederate soldier had four basic means of equiping himself, clothing from home, looted from dead enemy/stolen, issued by the Army or issued by the State. By the time of Antietam, Lee's Army had been in the field for almost four months, and so were looking much the worse for wear. The only known photograph of Lee's men on the march is from that time, barely a kepi in sight. Recent studies of records from the CS quatermasters & suppliers have begun to dispel the myth of the 'ragged Rebel', while Lee's men may well have looked shabby after months in the field, that's not to say they stayed that way. In other words, Louisiana troops could have been wearing state issued caps, ones issued by the Army (which would have been different) wide awakes sent/bought from home, or what they'd taken from dead Union soldiers.

At Shiloh some of the Confederate troops wore blue uniforms.
In order to avoid friendly fire incidents they turned their uniforms inside out.
Wonder if we'll ever see this recreated and if it happened during the Maryland Campaign.

"Capt. Towson's Emmett Guards have made their appearance in their new uniform, which the ladies - thanks to the skillful fingers and sewing machines, and more thanks to their noble hearts, - have gotten up in double quick time. The uniform is a green fatigue jacket, and green pantaloons, giving them quite a handsome appearance."

The second surviving Alabama jacket was owned by Thomas M. Murphree, who wore it while a member of Company E, 6th Alabama Infantry. Murphree enlisted in Montgomery, May 15, 1861, and he received the jacket as part of his state clothing issue in August. He wore the jacket until February 1863, and used it at the Battle of Sharpsburg as a pillow to cradle the head of his wounded Colonel, John Brown Gordon. Remarkably, the jacket came with a note from the seamstress who made the jacket, Miss Napp, which Murphree preserved as a keepsake. Murphree was eventually commissioned, appointed as commander of Company H, 57th Alabama Infantry, and served in the Western theater for the remainder of the war.

(A faithful reproduction of this jacket)
Apparently this Jacket would have been worn by members of the 6th Alabama Infantry Regiment after being issued them from the state of Alabama while fighting in the Maryland Campaign of 1862.
11393
Here is an earlier jacket worn by Private John Young Gilmore, Company E, 3rd Alabama Infantry.
Gilmore enlisted in Mobile, April 23, 1861.
This jacket would have been originally grey in color and I'd venture to guess that some of the members of the 6th Alabama as well as other Regiments may have still been wearing these during the Maryland Campaign.
I'd like to see if it may be possible to add these two jackets in for Alabama troops.
Best,
J.R.

Georgia Artillery Frockcoat.
Below is from Oldsouthantiques:
"The single breasted artillery frock coat shown here is identified as a Georgia coat by the eleven W.G. MINTZER PHILA 1861, Georgia State Seal buttons. The coat is made of wool and cotton; the wool remains mouse gray, and the dye in the cotton threads has turned somewhat brown or “butternut”. Originally the coat was mouse gray all over. The faced collar and cuffs are made of wool broadcloth and still hold the original dye well. There are two red wool broadcloth loops on the front of the coat intended to hold cross belts in place. The back of the coat is cut in the conventional style of the period with the pocket flaps extending to the bottom of the skirt. There were three buttons on each side, but only one remains. The inner body is partially lined with the green satinet so often found in this period interspersed with another layer of the same outer body material. It is interesting to note that the breast padding of this coat, which has been protected from light, is lined with homespun orange."
