The Daring 37th

Company A of the 37th Virginia Infantry is a virtual reenacting unit comprised of mature, drama free individuals looking to represent the men of the 37th who fought and died for what they believed in. In this group, we understand that this is, in fact, a game. We understand not only that life comes first, but that our members deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. We realize that rank does not give us the right to belittle or subjugate our members, rather it is a responsibility to provide the very best experience for those that fall in and join the line. It is our mission to invite those who seek a drama free, mature environment and a place to enjoy the game with like minded, easy going people. Many of us are reenactors and we take pride in the fact that we spend our time and money to help America remember her past and we want to bring that same pride and spirit to those who desire to cherish our nations history in a virtual environment. If any one is interested in joining us, please feel free to send us a telegram with whatever questions you'd like to ask, we'd be happy to help in any way we can.

Unit History

The 37th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment raised in Virginia for service in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. It fought mostly with the Army of Northern Virginia.

The 37th Virginia was organized in Washington County, Virginia, in May 1861, and accepted in Confederate service in July, when two more units were added. The regiment was in combat at First Kernstown and McDowell, then took part in Jackson's Valley Campaign. During the war it was assigned to General Taliaferro's, Colston's, Steuart's, and W. Terry's Brigade, Army of Northern Virginia. The 37th was involved in many conflicts from the Seven Days' Battles to Cold Harbor, moved with Early to the Shenandoah Valley, then participated in the final campaign at Appomattox.

It totaled 846 men in December 1861, sustained 113 casualties at First Kernstown and had 5 killed and 34 wounded at McDowell. The regiment reported 12 killed and 76 wounded at Cedar Mountain, 5 killed and 36 wounded at Second Manassas, and 22 killed, 101 wounded, and 9 missing at Chancellorsville. More than thirty percent of the 264 at Gettysburg were disabled and many from the grossly undermanned regiment were captured at Spotsylvania. Only 2 officers and 39 men surrendered. at Appomattox Courthouse.

The field officers were Colonels Samuel V. Fulkerson and Titus V. Williams, Lieutenant Colonels Robert P. Carson and John F. Terry, and Major Henry C. Wood.

Unit Rules and Operating Procedure

The 37th Virginia Co. A was established to bring professional, mature, and like minded gamers to enjoy their time off from work and school with those they meet within the group. As a command staff with lives and interests of our own outside gaming, it is our understanding that each member is due a sense of dignity and respect, and no member will be pushed away for absences, nor will any member be disrespected either by a fellow member or by a member of command. If disrespect is given we ask that you report it immediately and proper steps will be taken to correct and or discharge the party responsible.

It is expected that each and every member follow our code of conduct as follows:

-Respect fellow members and non-members

-Act at all times in a professional manner and remember always that when using our tags in game you represent your company and its members.

-No Intentional Team Killing.

-When in an official event or training, we ask that you refrain from excessive chatter unless relieved of duty. If you have ideas for the group or thoughts of how we can improve, direct those thoughts to your chain of command.

Rank Advancement and Commendation

In the 37th Virginia, we do not hand out rank advancements often. Because of this, we have a guideline for rank advancement and how it is done.

First, rank advancements will never be given or considered for an individual without the recommendation of a members’ immediate Officer or NCO. Therefore, members should never ask for advancement or progression. For an officer or NCO to recommend promotion, they are required to use their best judgement, determine the need for additional staff within the unit, and then reflect on the activity level, attitude, and conduct of their members on a day to day basis.

Second, once an officer or NCO determines who they will recommend for promotion, they will contact Company Command with a report of who they are recommending and why, after which the command staff will meet to discuss the recommendation and contact the individual and conduct an interview to decide the course of action. If the staff decides that the member in question is to be promoted, a ceremony will be held and rank will be given in front of the entire company.

Commendation medals will be given in the same fashion, only these awards are much more common and are given to those who show devotion, skill, or bravery in battle. These too are recommended by officers and NCOs to the staff and the same procedure will be followed prior to a ceremony.

Event Schedule

In this unit we have members who play on a daily basis, so having someone to back you up in field will rarely be a problem. We also have Official events throughout the week in the afternoons (US Time Zones) but our set events occur on Saturdays at around 3-5pm EST. Additional set events are planned.

Lastly, if you have any questions please feel free to post below or to reach out in PM we would be happy to help in any way. We wish everyone the very best, and cant wait to bump shoulders with fellow rebels as we defend the glorious south.
