View Full Version : Gun sway update?

Shouldn't the butt of the rifle be secure against your shoulder with your cheek resting on it? If so, why does the entire rifle move?
Just the end of the barrel should be swaying, not the entire rifle making circles in front of you... Line of sight down the barrel should be preserved. With the new sway, you don't even keep the iron sights lined up a lot of the time.
I am all for exhaustion having an effect on aiming but this doesn't seem to make much sense as it is.
I agree with you, I find it annoying as hell and it's taking alot of fun out of the game. I tried shooting at the targets on the drillcamp server and couldn't hit jack shit...

Thank you for the report.
The aiming was changed quite a bit in update 105. The targets on the firing ranges are not using the actual bullet system but a cast ray. This cast ray doesn't match the new aiming system very well currently.
- Trusty
The drill camp uses a different system for detecting hits and has not been updated.

Yeah I noticed I couldn't hit anything in the drill camps now, but I had already seen the post on the drill camp using another system all together. Just wanted to see how bad it really was. It's bad, even with the closest targets to the line.
In actual battles it's nearly impossible to keep your weapon pointed straight, even with no exhaustion at all. That along with the ironsight only lining up a fraction of the time pretty much eliminates any chance of sharpshooting or marksmanship. It's more like a minigame now where you have to time the pattern of the rifle as it floats in front of you.
...mind you it was still fun as all hell lastnight in the pickup battles :)

Actually at one time they had wildlife in the drill camps running around. You think hitting a stationary target is problematic, you should have tried squirrel hunting. :D
I got pretty good at it! Have several screenshots on my steam photos page.

Yeah man, ... well I am looking forward to raising my pledge to the last still possible tier.
I do have full confidence in the excellency of the games developers. If something should really be broken, I am confident they`ll fix it. And still, this is simply Alpha.
Cheers.

I changed the word. As to facts, Its in the game it self. the SIGHTS SWAY is Horrible FACT. I was looking at the 1st to add more to my account, but not now, thats not my fault. I was thrilled with this game and havent missed a days play since I got this 2 weeks ago. Knowing it was still in testing mode. Im not the only person who is upset with this SIGHT SWAYING. I adapted to what the game had and didnt have, and recommended 4 of my friends, who were also waiting to purchase this game, once they had the funds to do so. The tiring out after a long run, I agreed with, but one is taught, how to gain control on the battlefield to take well aimed shots, REST the barrel on a standing structure, I.E. fence, wall, tripod. laying in a prone position, using your elbow to support the weapon. But get control of that heavy breathing was foremost, aim with BOTH eyes open. oh Maximus Decimus Meridius I wont respond to your comment at ALL, but so could.
Patience.
An update was released and further adjustments will be made, all things will come in good time and not before. It does not serve you, or any one else here, well to post in such an aggrevating manner. If you find something troublesome, make a sensible response and perhaps even take a break for a couple of weeks.
As for everyone else, respond in kindness or move on. There is no room here right now for antagonising folks. :)

The fact that you changed your words is enough for me and I am happy with, thank you. Maybe I overreacted a bid but I hate comments like yours which start with SHIT GAME or something like that. just wanted to show you how unsuitable they are.
to come back to topic:
Maybe you read this thread and found your answer:

Only that was not the case back then.
To the limited extent ordinary soldiers was even thought anything about marksmanship, it was focused on how things worked when standing in two ranks in close order.
This is what the typical solder was ever thought about aiming.
174."Raise the piece with both
hands, and support the butt against
the right shoulder ; the left elbow
down, the right as high as the
shoulder ; incline the head upon the
butt, so that the right eye may
perceive quickly the notch of the
hausse, the front sight, and the object
aimed at ; the left eye closed, the
right thumb extended along the stock, the fore-finger on the
trigger."
(From Hardee's revised, but the language is the same in all the period drill books)
It very clearly tell you to aim with the left eye closed... and other things are not how you would learn to shoot today with modern firearms.
But it work with muzzle loaded rifles in close formations used.
Obviously the drill books are just that, drill books, and on the real battlefield the soldiers managed just fine to kneel behind fences and use them for cover. But that don't change the fact that much of what you write did not make it sway into how soldiers was drilled until much later... and much of it work poorly when you are fighting in two ranks in close order.

Agreed, Sweetroll already has mentioned that he was fooling around with the new sway system and understands it's at a disadvantage right now, so next fix will be to only have 'THIS' sway when your at 50% stamina or lower, if your rested you won't have that horrible sway...just be patient, devs in my experience always fix the major issues that the community has.

I proved my point by walking all the way across the pontoon bridge, with 7 plus shooting at me, I was laughing all the way. knowing a very lucky shot would be the only way to hit me, at the end, I shot 1 who ran down to get me, missed his shot, stabbed another and finally being shot by a pistol. my faith has been restored that this SIGHT SWAY will be gone soon. while on the range I could no longer hit 75 yrd target and the 25 yrd targets I was lucky to place a round on the Target area, but not in the circles. Oh well it is what it is, I saw 80 plus and after about 20 min drop to 30 and even I said enough, I guess my walking across the pontoon bridge was a bit to much for alot, but still it was funny.
