Major General Ambrose Burnside
Founder of the IX Corps
Commander of the Right Wing
During the Maryland Campaign (https://www.battlefields.org/learn/biographies/ambrose-e-burnside)
MARYLAND CAMPAIGN HISTORY

With the IX Corps now apart of the Army of the Potomac, General George McClellan placed General Ambrose Burnside in charge of the Right wing of the Army of the Potomac which consisted of the I Corps under General Joseph Hooker, and his own IX Corps now under the command of General Jesse Reno. The Kanawha Division under General Jacob Cox would be attached for the campaign. The IX Corps would fight in the Battle of South Mountain in the Fox's Gap and General Reno would be killed in action leaving General Cox in charge of the IX Corps for the remainder of the Maryland Campaign. During Antietam the I and IX Corps would happen to be on opposite sides of the Battlefield which left Burnside back in charge of the IX Corps. By 10am the IX Corps to the far south of the field would attack the bridge later dubbed "Burnside's Bridge" as well as cross over Snaverly Ford. After securing both river crossings the IX Corps would advance toward the Harpers Ferry Road nearly cutting the Confederate Army's retreat path. However, a Confederate counter attack would drive the IX Corps back to the Antietam creek bringing an end to the Battle of Antietam. The entire IX Corps would be on reserve during the Battle of Shepherdstown.

Good Luck! What happened to the Eagle Brigade?

This has nothing to do with EB, and this Corps will not be used for in game coordination as it states in our purpose until 9th corps units hold the vast majority of players on the Union team like 2nd Corps does for the Confederacy. This corps is for now a community hub for 9th corps units to socialize and help each other out. and this thread is to give some history of the 9th corps along with open units for people to pick from.

I added Tyler about a month ago but I've been waiting for my company to gain some traction. Now that we have 20 members on the roster and a few active players, I feel it's time to request that my regiment joins the IX Corps.

I am the commander of the 6th New Hampshire aka "The Bully Sixth" (TB6 is our tag). The CT link is here (https://warofrights.com/CT_ViewCompany?companyID=3666#companyToolHeader). I have not made a forum post yet but I plan to do so sometime late next week.

I look forward to getting to know everyone. Or at least the people I don't already know XD.

After a small discussion the 9th Corps will be expanding itself to include the 1st Corps as well. Historically speaking during the Maryland Campaign General Burnside did not in fact lead the 9th Corps as it was led by General Reno and Cox. Instead he led both the 1st Corps and the 9th Corps as the "Right Wing" of the Army of the Potomac. With that a new forum format will be introduced in due time with the help of 1st ME Cav's Sergeant Ragtime to include the 1st Corps. I'd like to also welcome the 42nd PA under Captain Stone, and all future 1st Corps units into our organization.

Today the IX Corps celebrated it's 1 month Anniversary as well as the 9th NY celebrating it's 2 year Anniversary. The entire IX Corps rallied 63 tonight as a whole. We were honored to have the II Corps attend the ceremony tonight as well as our Honorary Major General George Crecy. Thank you to George Crecy, Paioletti, and all of the IX Corps staff who gave speeches tonight. A video of the ceremony will be posted as soon as it's out. I cannot wait to see what another year has in store for us!

In other news the 9th NY, Company E has broken off to form their own IX Corps unit, the 28th Massachusetts! We are happy to have them in the Corps and hope they bring the IX Corps glory on the EU battlefield.

Looking forward to lobbing shells in your general direction, Clark's Battery.

Instead of capturing the point, we will have maps only for counter-battery firing ;)

I can hear Tyler now, "Why aren't you guys shelling point?"

That would require him to log on :P

I am very happy to say that IX Corps hit 75 (half a server) last night. Never could I have imagined over two years ago when founding the 9th NY that we would have activity this high. This is only the beginning and I hope for even higher attendance in future. Onward to 100!

I love you, IX Corps. <3

Here's a fun video I did of a really good win we had about two weeks ago. Sorry for the quality. I'm recording events now with correct encoder settings (huzzah) and without my face and overlays, so I'll be able to provide them to the Corps for official use, if wanted.

Hit'em again!

For continuous dedication to the IX Corps and excellence on the field of battle I am proud to promote Sergeant Major Drache to the rank of 1st Lieutenant as well as the title of Inspector General. The inspector general is charged with examining the actions of the Corps as a general auditor of operations to ensure the Corps is operating in compliance with generally established policies of the corps, to audit the effectiveness of training procedures, and overall support the sustainability and effectiveness of the Corps on and off the battlefield. I thank you for all you have done and I can not wait to see the things you will do for the Union cause.

Brigadier-General, Commanding IX Corps.

From August 6-11th the IX Corps put on a trip to tour the Battlefields of the Maryland Campaign alongside a few others in the area. We successfully toured 1st & 2nd Bull Run, Chantilly, Harpers Ferry, Antietam, Fox's Turner's & Crampton's Gaps at South Mountain, Cedar Mountain, Harrisburg National Civil War Museum, and Gettysburg. We also brought reproduction IX Corps and 9th NY Battle flags with us! Thank you to all those who attend and hopefully next year we can get even more IX Corps members to attend! Also no one got COVID so that's also a success!

Those who were able to attend:
Brigadier General Tyler - Attended the whole trip
Major Hawkeye - Missed Bull Run and Harpers Ferry
Major Mercenary - Missed Bull Run and Harpers Ferry
1st Lieutenant Drache - Attended the whole trip
1st Lieutenant Fury - Only missed Bull Run
Sergeant Veiled - Attended the whole trip
Sergeant Suzan - Only missed Bull Run
Corporal Wren - Attended the whole trip
Corporal NCR TROOPER - Antietam only

September 14, 1862 (158 years ago). Major General Jesse Reno, commander of the IX Corps, is killed in action at the Battle of South Mountain as he rode infront of his men. He was believed to have been shot by a rookie soldier of the 35th Massachusetts mistaking him for Rebel Cavalry. However, Confederate General D.H. Hill claims his 23rd North Carolinians shot him. Reno was brought by stretcher to Brigadier General Samuel Sturgis's command post and said in a clear voice, "Hallo, Sam, I'm dead!" Sturgis, a long-time acquaintance and fellow member of the West Point Class of 1846, thought that he sounded so natural that he must be joking and told Reno that he hoped it was not as bad as all that. Reno repeated, "Yes, yes, I'm dead—good-by!", dying a few minutes later. The men of the IX Corps chanted “Remember Reno!!” as they crossed what is now known as “Burnside’s Bridge” at Antietam a few days later.

"Damned Black Hats" was probably one of the most exciting events in long time that I've participated in as an infantry "private".
