No. Cryengine is the engine Crytek developed. It's been used in all the Crysis games. Far Cry is running a modified version of Cryengine called Dunia.

Just a quick demonstration of some of the graphical features cryengine supports :)

Small qustion. Why cryengine 3? I dont know much about game engines but what makes this engine good for a civil war game?

It's a flexible engine, with a good sdk, good tutorials and you have acess to parts of the source code. It's free to use for indie game developers, and the amount of MP players has no limit.

That means, theoretically you could fight with a full division of 5.000 players :)

Would I be able to get this Engine for free, without requiring a game? So I can take a look, and practice mapping with it lol.

How many people do you think the engine will be able to support on one server, without it beginning to lag?

"CryENGINE 3 is now available free of charge for use on non-commercial gaming projects. If you are looking to use CryENGINE 3 for a commercial game or in any way that is not specifically allowed in the End User License Agreement (EULA), you must contact Crytek to agree on commercial terms and a license for your use."

So it's only free aslong as the game is. (Haven't really looked into it though, I hope I'm wrong)

Another reason for choosing Cryengine is of course also the awesome graphics it allows us to do ;). And it does have some excellent vegetation tools.

Yeah we are indeed gonna need a license at some point. But we are allowed to develop the game in the meantime and we are allowed to host different kinds of tests, as long as you don't pay anything for it ;).

You can get the free sdk from here: http://www.crydev.net/dm_eds/download_detail.php?id=4

Doesn't have to be anything accurate. Just a rough estimation would be nice :)

As long as we keep our server equally simple/advanced as the one bcof is using, I see no reason why we shouldn't be able to reach the same number. That is most likely the best answer I can give you at this point :)

Ah ok.Regarding maps, how much detail with the maps have? And will scene props make it lag like the huge maps in NaS? Or does the egine let you place lots of props will little or no lag?

Detail always means lower perfomance, but the team is always looking into new ways to save power - Just look at the cornfield ;)

Exactly! The cornfield is probably one of our best performance saving demonstrations hehe.

:D Sorry i no nothing about engines but how does the cornfield save performance?(Please make maps that are all made for better performance.Coming form a guy who's computer runs of water.)And on a side not but not offtopic will tree be destructible? Will bits of wood be chipped of but bullets or the hole thing come crahsing down if a cannon hits the base? Dont know if this is even possible but no harm in asking, right? :P

We'll do our best. Be warned though. This was never intended to be light on the hardware requirement side of things. We do afterall use one of the most powerful and graphically intensive engines on the current market. Can't say anything about destructible trees. But would think it'd be too demanding of the server (Antietam consists of about ten thousand trees).

Will players need to download the SDK and the mod (a la The Hidden) or will there be a single bundle?

WoR is a game, not a mod.

Well, it's running on someone else's engine.
But the game is being done from the ground up apart from that, so it was probably the wrong word.

It's a good engine, all you need to know, they need the licence for it I believe, so start donating :)

Warface (http://www.crytek.com/games/warface/overview) also uses this engine. But isn't a very heavy and hardcore engine for a game who doesn't need this kind of gameplay?
