View Full Version : Big Event Complications

During 'bigger' events or 'busy' evenings, we have and will been running into certain issues :

Server cap is reached (150/150) -> not all can join
Regiments are getting dispersed -> some aren't able to join, or get autobalanced.
Server (full or partial) crashes -> reconnect, change servers ?
Technical issues : some of our players have difficulty in joining busy servers, if they are on early it seems to help.
Certain regiments take up a certain faction : sometimes normally CSA or UNION regiments could take up the other faction to try and 'balance' the server … but this could unbalance the factions.
Pubbies (not ment in a derogatory form) might get left out

It's not the intention to start pointing fingers but to check how we might handle these things in the future.
There are a lot of parties involved and a lot of channels where information might derive from, giving fast and reliable info in these cases is a must.

@devs : on issue 1 : are there intentions to push the boundaries of max. playercount even over 150 in the near future ?

I think we should start exploring this, now that servers are stable(only individual crashes) and if we start testing out at a higher number now the devs can fine tune it and make it stable over time with all the updates in time for Beta or early access release, last night 20 1st TX guys among other players couldn't get in because the NA 1 server was full, there was at one point throughout all the servers 200 people playing war of rights, we would have had 180 players in a battle/skirmish easy last night.

There will always be full servers, no matter the server capacity (WoR is not a MMO, it is a first person shooter). Because of this we have several servers available (like all other games really).

While we will experiment with higher player counts do not expect us to allow all playing players to join in (we'd need servers with thousands of player slots then). :)

Player numbers is probably THE thing where we won't be able to satisfy anybody. There will always be wishes for higher player counts no matter what (which we understand, we want as many players as possible as well). :)

Personally I won’t be satisfied until we have 100k player servers :)

At least 200 players on a server would be something to aim for.

Yup!

Earlier it was 64, then 80, then 100 and then 150 - my guess is there are plenty of other things "to aim for" should we ever reach 200 players. :p

I understand the issue with not everyone can get on but as alpha tester we are aware however as a community we need to pull together to better communicate and plan ahead so we all can test and experience I suggest a schedule amongst units yes servers won't be filled but denying a regiment or groups isn't the answer for a first come first serve basis is just plain childish we can do better by being a stronger community coming together planning and talking not complaining and denying it will make the community as a whole be better work towards getting more involved into the game and look better for those wishing to get the game we all passed kindergarten with out choking on the glue and crayons .. I'm not calling anyone out but were all capable of acting better

Hear Hear !! When beta hits, player count might rise a little :D … So maybe we would be able to fill two or more servers. (maybe one Antietam & a Harpers or a drill one ...)
Good communication and organization will be the 'keyword' here.

And like stated by the original poster : preventing certain groups or players from joining isn't a good practice. (sure some are liked more then others and if things get really rowdy … we can have talks on what can be done).

Respectfully, it shouldn't matter if one regiment is liked more than another. We all paid to be here, and it isn't the decision of one large gaming clan to dictate who does and doesn't have access to servers they don't own.
