View Full Version : Framerate Issues

I've had this game for a few months and just recently I started getting abysmal framerates (10-20 FPS) while in game no matter how many people are on the server. I always play on low graphics and until recently I would get 60-100 FPS. I have tried everything to fix it and nothing has worked. I've restarted my computer, reinstalled the game, updated my graphics card drivers, and closed every nonessential program besides WoR. When I look my usage in the Task Manager, nothing is above 70%. It's only started happening in the past week or so. I've heard that a few other people are experiencing similar issues. Is there any solution that I've overlooked or is this an issue with the game? No other game that I've tried had framerate issues.
My specs are:
GTX 960
Intel 4690K Processor
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 RAM
Game is installed on a 240 GB SSD

Hello,
We have no released any game update the past two weeks now so chances are it's issues on your end.
You are not comparing playing on a 150 player populated server with playing on an empty one, are you - because there will be a huge performance difference between the two. :)

I first noticed it while I was in a server with over 100 people, but today I tried it on several servers where I was the only one and the issue remained.

My performance on a server with >50 people is around 40-60 frames, and as it climbs the performance gets significantly worse, usually getting it's worse at around 100 people, which makes sense,

Let me preface this by saying that on high settings, the game looks amazing.
Unfortunately, I can't play on high settings. My framerate goes down to about 2 or 3 SPF, even with less than 10 people on the server. I have a decent rig, so it's a bit concerning.
On low settings, the game is playable, but still has a low framerate.

P.S. I'm happy to post my specs, if it helps the Devs.

Here's a thought for you folks that have "moderately decent" rigs.
Turn off and unload the two biggest resources hogs on your systems. Norton, or McAfee.

Again, I always play on low even though I can run the game at very high and have had the same low framerate regardless of the amount of people on a server. I also don't have any of those antiviruses that are practically viruses themselves.
But I think I found the culprit. I looked at my temperatures and my processor was running just below its maximum safe temperature while running the game. I took that as a sign that I need to clean my heatsink for the first time in several years. It was unbelievably dirty. I need to buy thermal paste and then I will see if that fixes it.

I mean, I'm using Windows Defender until I can find a good antivirus. I hear that Avast is good, but IDK about how resource intensive it is.

Your specs are better than mine in every way. Try what I did and look at the temperatures while you're running the game.

Yeah I mean... my rig is ancient and I get higher FPS than what you've mentioned Dman. Do you play any other games? Have you recently reseated your CPU and checked the cooler/paste? From what I recall, the CPU plays a larger and larger part in WoR as more folk join the server.

I run the Windows Defender, and the "Pro" version of MalwareBytes. That's all you need.
All the other stuff is a waste of money.
(I also have CrapCleaner, run independent of the two mentioned above but it is more of a maintenance thing, keeping cookies and crap off my system. Beware, this pro, program is not for casual users, you can seriously do damage with the wrong settings.)

I do play other games, and I get about the same performance. It is a laptop, though, so that might be affecting things, maybe? I am not the most tech-savvy of people.

Heat could be the issue as others have mentioned.
Another issue could be the mobile GPU trying to run the game on a 4k monitor. It very well may have maxed out its VRAM (which will result in very low FPS indeed).

I don't know how to measure the heat, short of sticking a thermometer on the CPU. Any tips and tricks would be appreciated.
It's got 3 gigs of VRAM. Is that enough?

I doubt it is for 4k. My 970 (non mobile version) is not happy at all at 4k and that is quite a bit faster than the mobile version.
I'd turn my game resolution down to 1080p if I were you for starters.

I'll try that tonight, and let you know how it works! :)

I think CPU-Z shows temperatures. I used Open Hardware Monitor (https://openhardwaremonitor.org/downloads/).

Yep. Cleaning the heatsink and adding new thermal paste did the trick. Back at 100+ FPS on low.

M.H.O. Thing with laptops, they're not user friendly to certain maintenance tasks, and generally, I shy away from laptops as a gaming machine. (hardware is usually wanting in order to keep the weight down.) In order to clean your heatsink you have to tear the whole thing apart, then remember how to put it back together again.
I've only ever attempted self maintenance on one laptop and it was a p.i.t.a. Desktops rule for this.
