Ich habe so gegen 17 uhr feierabend und brauch ~1 Stunde bis ich dann richtig zuhause bin. Dann hätte ich zeit!

Bully hatte mir schon so ein paar coole Sachen erzählt und ich habe auch Videos gesehen, aber online kommen und direkt so nen Drill zu sehen, Respect, cool gemacht, freue mich schon total auf weitere Events. Samstag abend war ich auch dabei hier und da. Maj. Stalin hat sich auch ein wenig um mich gekümmert und ich habe versucht mich einzureihen.
Steuerung habe ich auch raus mit double quick, shoulder switch etc...

Gestern habe ich noch das 3-teilige Video über die German Volunteers von Steinwallen gesehen und dann war klar, passt für mich sehr gut.
Ich kann nur wirklich sagen Respekt das ihr das so durchzieht, finden wir beide richtig cool.
Gestern war ich auch schon so frei und habe mich einem fremden Captain als 48er und Mitglieder der 52. vorgestellt, einfach cool direkt als Deutscher enttarnt zu werden.
Ich war zwar schon einige Male in USA und Canada, aber Ahnung vom Sezessionskrieg habe ich kaum, finde das Setting aber sehr spannend.
Und die Art und Weise wie gespielt wird sowieso: Ich sagte schon, das man im Grunde alle Spiele so angehen sollte, mehr RP halt, einfach weils mehr Spaß macht ;)

da ich keinen anderen Thread gefunden habe, schreibe ich hier meinen kleinen Erfahrungsbericht für Neueinsteiger, die auf der Suche nach einer Historisch akuraten Spielweise, verfeinert mit Rp sind.

Nun Spiele ich schon seit ungefähr einen Monat bei der 52nd und bin mehr als begeistert. Als alter Rpler will ich mir etwas Rp-Erfahrung zuschreiben können und daher auch zu allererst bestätigen, dass das Rollenspielniveau hoch angesetzt ist und dieses auch im Voice-Chat sehr gut umgesetzt wird. Die Offiziere sowie Unteroffiziere sind für alle Fragen offen und helfen den Neueinsteigern auf ihren Weg zum Soldaten der Union. Ob beim Verständnis oder das umsetzen der Befehle, konnte ich gut beobachten wie die Offiziere/Unteroffiziere immer zur Stelle waren, wenn im Drill doch noch Fragen offen waren. Persönlich gesehen hatte ich keine Probleme bei den Drills, da diese meiner Meinung nach immer deutlich und mit viel Liebe zum Rp verübt worden. Die Atmosphäre bei den Drills war unglaublich und ich meine nicht zu übertreiben, wenn ich schreibe dass ich damit eine neue Rollenspiel Erfahrung gesammelt habe. Es gab hier und da leider ein paar Soundbugs, wodurch Befehle nicht immer die hintere Reihe (rear rank) erreicht haben, hierzu sollte man aber immer im Hinterkopf behalten, dass wir eine ''Alpha'' am spielen sind und diese zum Verhältnis super läuft. Kommen wir nun zu den Skirmish-Events, welche um einiges mehr Konzentration fordern, als bei den Drills. Auf dem Schlachtfeld werden Befehle um einiges schneller gegeben, welche man dann auch zügiger ausführen sollte. Gerade die Battleline ist beim geimeinsamen feuern (Fire by company) beeindruckend. Spiel und Spieler schaffen eine Atmosphäre, die ich so noch in keinen anderen Spiel gesehen habe. Hierzu muss ich aber erwähnen, dass ich, was Voice-Rp betrifft, noch wenig Erfahrung gesammelt habe.

Dies ist ein rein Subjektiver Erfahrungsbericht, welcher sich nur auf eigene beobachtungen bezieht. Es liest sich anfangs sicherlich etwas komisch, da doch keine wirkliche Kritik zu sehen ist. Doch habe ich bis jetzt auch noch keine negativen Erfahrungen in den letzten vier Wochen sammeln können, was auch ruhig so bleiben darf.

Since I couldn't finde any other thread, I'll post my own little guide for beginners, based on my own experiences. Suitable for anyone who's looking for historically accurate gameplay with a pinch of role-play.
I have been playing with the 52nd for about a month and I am positively thrilled. As someone with prior experience in role-play I can verify that the quality level of the role-play is quite high, and the execution via the voice-chat is very well done. The officers as well as the sergeants are open for any questions one might have and try their best to help new beginners on their path to becoming a soldier of the Union. Whenever there were open questions left during the drills, be it due to lack of understanding or due to putting instructions into action, the officers and sergeants were there and tried to explain everything. I personally never had any problems with the drills, which were always very easy to understand and carried out with a lot of historical accuracy and love for details. The atmosphere during the drills is incredible and without exaggerating I'd say that I made a lot of new role-play experiences there. Unfortunately we had some minor sound bugs occuring here and there, which made it sometimes difficult to understand orders while standing in the back row, but one should keep in mind that we are playing an "Alpha" game, and relating to that everything runs quite smoothly. The skirmish events require a lot more concentration than the drills. On the battlefield commands are given a lot faster and need to be carried out quickly. Especially the battleline is very very impressive when firing by company. The game and its players create an atmosphere unlike anything I have ever seen in any other game. The voice-RP aswell was an opportunity for me to make new experiences.
This is of course a subjective report which is solely based on my own observations. You may wonder why there is no real critique in it, but that's because I have not made a single negative experience in the past weeks, which I hope may stay that way.

In this sense I look forward to many more nice drills and battles with the "Sigel Rifles"!

Als alter Rpler will ich mir etwas Rp-Erfahrung zuschreiben können und daher auch zu allererst bestätigen, dass das Rollenspielniveau hoch angesetzt ist und dieses auch im Voice-Chat sehr gut umgesetzt wird. Die Offiziere sowie Unteroffiziere sind für alle Fragen offen und helfen den Neueinsteigern auf ihren Weg zum Soldaten der Union. Ob beim Verständnis oder das umsetzen der Befehle, konnte ich gut beobachten wie die Offiziere/Unteroffiziere immer zur Stelle waren, wenn im Drill doch noch Fragen offen waren. Persönlich gesehen hatte ich keine Probleme bei den Drills, da diese meiner Meinung nach immer deutlich und mit viel Liebe zum Rp verübt worden. Die Atmosphäre bei den Drills war unglaublich und ich meine nicht zu übertreiben, wenn ich schreibe dass ich damit eine neue Rollenspiel Erfahrung gesammelt habe. Es gab hier und da leider ein paar Soundbugs, wodurch Befehle nicht immer die hintere Reihe (rear rank) erreicht haben, hierzu sollte man aber immer im Hinterkopf behalten, dass wir eine ''Alpha'' am spielen sind und diese zum Verhältnis super läuft. Kommen wir nun zu den Skirmish-Events, welche um einiges mehr Konzentration fordern, als bei den Drills. Auf dem Schlachtfeld werden Befehle um einiges schneller gegeben, welche man dann auch zügiger ausführen sollte. Gerade die Battleline ist beim geimeinsamen feuern (Fire by company) beeindruckend. Spiel und Spieler schaffen eine Atmosphäre, die ich so noch in keinen anderen Spiel gesehen habe. Hierzu muss ich aber erwähnen, dass ich, was Voice-Rp betrifft, noch wenig Erfahrung gesammelt habe.

Dies ist ein rein Subjektiver Erfahrungsbericht, welcher sich nur auf eigene beobachtungen bezieht. Es liest sich anfangs sicherlich etwas komisch, da doch keine wirkliche Kritik zu sehen ist. Doch habe ich bis jetzt auch noch keine negativen Erfahrungen in den letzten vier Wochen sammeln können, was auch ruhig so bleiben darf.

Since I couldn't finde any other thread, I'll post my own little guide for beginners, based on my own experiences. Suitable for anyone who's looking for historically accurate gameplay with a pinch of role-play.
I have been playing with the 52nd for about a month and I am positively thrilled. As someone with prior experience in role-play I can verify that the quality level of the role-play is quite high, and the execution via the voice-chat is very well done. The officers as well as the sergeants are open for any questions one might have and try their best to help new beginners on their path to becoming a soldier of the Union. Whenever there were open questions left during the drills, be it due to lack of understanding or due to putting instructions into action, the officers and sergeants were there and tried to explain everything. I personally never had any problems with the drills, which were always very easy to understand and carried out with a lot of historical accuracy and love for details. The atmosphere during the drills is incredible and without exaggerating I'd say that I made a lot of new role-play experiences there. Unfortunately we had some minor sound bugs occuring here and there, which made it sometimes difficult to understand orders while standing in the back row, but one should keep in mind that we are playing an "Alpha" game, and relating to that everything runs quite smoothly. The skirmish events require a lot more concentration than the drills. On the battlefield commands are given a lot faster and need to be carried out quickly. Especially the battleline is very very impressive when firing by company. The game and its players create an atmosphere unlike anything I have ever seen in any other game. The voice-RP aswell was an opportunity for me to make new experiences.
This is of course a subjective report which is solely based on my own observations. You may wonder why there is no real critique in it, but that's because I have not made a single negative experience in the past weeks, which I hope may stay that way.

In this sense I look forward to many more nice drills and battles with the "Sigel Rifles"!

vor zwei Jahren startete ein Projekt vom dem ich dachte "das wird nichts, aber man kanns ja mal versuchen". Nun feiern wir den zweiten Geburtstag unserer Kompanie was ich nicht für möglich gehalten habe. Stunden über Stunden wurden in dieses Projekt investiert. GIMP und die Forensoftware verflucht, aber immer mit Freude dabei.
Aber eins nach dem anderen:
Nachdem ich festgestellt habe, dass es möglich ist nun endlich im Forum seine Kompanie zu gründen, entschied ich mich spontan dazu selbst eine zu Gründen und falls es nichts werden sollte, einer anderen Einheit beizutreten. Die heutige 52nd hätte es dabei fast nicht gegeben, da mein erster Post die 54th New York reservierte. Allerdings stieß ich nach ein wenig Recherche darauf, dass der Colonel der 52nd, Paul Frank, ein guter Freund von Franz Sigel (daher der Beiname "Sigel Rifles") war, welcher General und Minister während der badischen Revolution 1848/49 war. Da pakte mich der Lokalpatriotismus und mein Stolz als Badener und so wurde aus der 54th die 52nd. Zufälliger weise viel der Gründungstag auf den Tag des Mauerfalls.

Nun blicke ich auf die letzten zwei Jahre zurück und sehe was wir alles in der Zeit geschafft haben. Viele Stunden des Drills, der Planung und der Kämpfe ist vergangen und noch immer stehen wir hier und halten Stand!
Ich bin Stolz darauf was wir geschafft haben und ich bin zuversichtlich, dass wir noch vieles schaffen werden.

Als Motivation für meine tapferen Männer:
Nach zwei Jahren, im Dezember 1863, verdiente sich die 52nd New York das Recht sich selbst "Veteran Regiment" zu nennen.

Vielleicht verdienen wir uns das auch, eines Tages....

2 Year Anniversary!

Two years ago, a project started from wich I thought "That will not work, but we could give a try". Today we celebrate our companies second birthday, what seemed to be impossible for me back then. Hours and hours were spent on this project, GIMP and forum software were cursed, but always with pleasure.
But one after the other:
After I noticed, that finally there is the possibility to found an own company in the forum, I decided spontaneously to found one by myself and for the case, that this idea wont work, to join an other Unit. The today's 52nd almost would not exist these days, because of my first post, that reserved the 54th New York. However, after some research I found out that Paul Frank, Colonel of the 52nd, was a good friend of Franz Sigel ("Sigel Rifles"), who was General and minister during the Baden-Revolution 1848/49. I was seized by local patriotism and my pride as Badener and so the 54th became the 52nd. (Coincidentally, the founding day fell on the day of the fall of the Wall.)
Now I look back at the last years and see what we have achieved in this time. Many hours of drill, planning and fighting has passed and still we stand here and withstand!
I'm proud of what we have achieved and I am confindent, that we will achieve much more in the future!

As a motivation for my brave men:
After two years, in December 1863, the 52nd New York gained the right to call itself "veteran regiment".

Maybe, someday we deserve that too...

It has been a very nice evening at the Drill grounds today. I enjoyed the practicing with the fellow soldiers of the 42nd PA, 95th NY and 72nd PA a lot and I also want to say thank you for helping out in making some epic shots for and with us.

PS: The cherry on top of the eve for me was Cpt. Frank promoting and accepting me as an infantry regular amongst the ranks of the brave 52nd. New York Infantry. I will try my best to never let the Company down.
PPS: The icing on top of the cherry was definately sneaking into the role play of the 42nd at the end of our small event. #thumbs up for that and another CHEERS to the participating Companies!

I proudly present you the front side of the 52nd New York Volunteer Infantry regimental flag. Since WoR is based on the Maryland Campaign Fredericksburg, Antietam and Peach Orhard are not shown at the flag.

You will notice on the left bottom corner "FR Klein" The name of the embroiderer, Franceska Klein. She also did the embroidery for the first colors of the 7th and 20th NY regiments.



The flags of the 52nd New York are a bit of a mystery. There is no record of them as being held by New York State in a list of flags in Phisterers New York in the War of the Rebellion in 1912. However, NY currently holds several flags of the 52nd, including their first regimental color and flank markers.

The flank markers are similar to other flank markers issued by the state. Dark blue in color and about 29” by 30 “, they are fringed along the border. The design and inscriptions are painted on the flag in red, gold and black, with the inscriptions reversed on one side. However, the regimental number read normally on both sides. The markers probably date from an earlier period in the 52nds service, as they only say “NYSV” for “New York State Volunteers”, not “NYSVV,” representing “New York State Veteran Volunteers.” The 52nd became a Veteran regiment in the winter of 1863. The oval shield in the center is also not as ornate as the ones seen on the markers for Veteran regiments.

The 52nds first regimental color is a beautiful, and possibly, one of a kind flag. According to an article published in the Brooklyn Eagle on October 31, 1861, it was presented to the regiment on October 30, 1861 while they were encamped on Staten Island. The flag was sewn by Brooklyn ladies under Mrs. Otto Schloemer, and presented by Miss Mary Matthews with remarks given by a Judge Reynolds, whose speech talked about the honor and devotion of “those who came to us from another continent” who are “pledging to the country a higher and stronger allegiance than that of mere birth, and cementing it in blood.” Accepting the flag, Colonel Paul Frank then gave a speech in German. After the 52nd put on some maneuvers for the assembled crowd, the guests attended a party.

The flag was made of two separate pieces of silk with a cotton layer inside and gold bullion fringe on the border, 77" by 85" in size. All of the work on the flag was embroidered, while the majority of other flags were painted on silk. One side of the flag was made of white silk, with Liberty mounted on the back of a flying eagle, holding the Constitution in one hand and the US flag in the other. The eagle holds an olive branch in its mouth, but clutches lightning bolts in its talon. Oak leaves are in the corners. Gold bullion was also used on the border of Liberty’s collar, sleeves and dress hem. Silver bullion was used for the star at the apex the collar and probably for the stars on the American flag. The name of the embroiderer, Franceska Klein, is on one of the corners. She also did the embroidery for the first colors of the 7th and 20th NY regiments.

The reverse side was made of scarlet silk. It was embroidered with “Sigels Rifles,” “52nd Regt. N.Y.S.V. 1861” and “Col. Paul Frank,” with oak leaves in the corners and laurel leaves in a wreath in the center. Both sides were embroidered with the battle honors of Fair Oaks, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, Gaines Mill, Peach Orchard, Savage Station, Antietam and Fredericksburg, though they appear in a different order on the two sides of the flag.

The flag of the 52nd has been shown in two books from two different Time Life Series. One is The Bloodiest Day: The Battle of Antietam and the other was Echoes of Glory: Arms and Equipment of the Union. It was also on display in the Capital in Albany from October 2006 to October 2007 as part of an exhibit on the ethnic regiments of New York in the Civil War called “United Under the Flag.” The following pictures were taken during the exhibition. Though better views of the white side of the flag exist, this is the only place I know of that has a picture of the red side of the flag.

After a very successful and exhausting drill last night, the 52nd New York (Confed. Edition) and the 18th North Carolina had the honor to face a worthy enemy in the 42nd Pennsylvania. To make things clear the brave troops met in the midst of the battlefield and made it a heroic shootout.

PS: I have to apologize to the 42nd as I had been pushed a bit too far and shot two or three brave Line-soldiers with my NCO pistol while there was already the "Cease fire" called. It felt wrong but I was in some kind of southern rush, maybe because of "Haferkeks and Cornschnaps". Please accept a thousand pardons!
