The 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was formed during May 1861, under Lt. Col. J B Strange. Raised in Albemarle, Amherst & Nelson counties of Virginia, it was initially assigned to Camp Pickens at Manassas Junction, and took part in the First Battle of Manassas, although the regiment hardly fired a shot. The 19th Va. served actively throughout the conflict, fighting in most of the major engagements of the Eastern theatre; Seven Pines, Gaines' Mill, Second Manassas, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, and on until 6th April 1865, when the regiment was surprised by Union cavalry and surrendered en masse rather than face annihilation. The 19th Va. spent the early part of the war as part of Pickett's (later Garnett's) Brigade. During the infamous Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, the 19th Va. managed to reach the stone wall defended by the 69th Massachusetts, succeeding in pushing the Union soldiers back, although they were unable to advance beyond the wall. It was at Gettysburg that the colour of the 19th Va. was captured by members of the 19th Massachusetts as the battle died down. Realising the irony of meeting another regiment with the same number, the 19th Mas. cut out the '19th' from the 19th Va. flag and stitched it to their own.

The 19th Va. entered the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg with around 50 men, having lost a large number of men through straggling. On the morning of the 17th September, Garnett's Brigade (in Jone's Division) was ordered to relieve Anderson's Brigade and support the Washington Artillery on Cemetery Hill. The brigade was steadily bombarded by Federal gunners and, during the afternoon, was advanced to engage elements of Sykes Division, which had crossed the creek and begun an assault on the hill. By 1530, after holding their position for two hours, the brigade was ordered to retreat as Union forces had almost surrounded their position. Reforming in front of Sharpsburg, Garnett's Brigade, along with Drayton's, supported Hill's Light Division as it flanked the Union battleline.

The 'virtual' 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment is the War of Rights persona for the Lucky Dogs, a group of friends who've been gaming & socialising together for the past four years. As a group we have been active across a wide variety of multiplayer games; Mount&Blade: Warband (vanilla plus mods: Vikingr, The Deluge & others), ArmA2 & 3 (& DayZ), IL2 Sturmovik games (notably Cliffs of Dover), Naval Action & others. Whilst not a large group, it is certainly a close one. Geographically the group is primarily European, but we do have members further afield (including a true Virginian, no less!).

Our group prides itself on our combined interest in history and take pains to get the units/personas we represent 'right'. As such with our approach to representing Company A of the 19th Va. we will be looking to bring as close a representation to Confederate line infantry as possible, whilst enjoying ourselves at the same time. We are a very relaxed group who like to avoid the strict nature of many clans. We don't really bother too much with strict training, and our officers/NCOs take up their positions voluntarily as a means of giving direction for our other members to enhance their experience, rather than to achieve gratification through a virtual 'rank'.

For the moment we are not recruiting, as we are waiting for a point nearer to the release of War of Rights before we (potentially) open our doors.

Ole Will Lambert dusting off. Here's hoping I can maintain that company marksman title. But that all depends on our choice of hats.

Many thanks and many more times over. The credit is due to Mr Flockton (or Mr Frederiksen, as he is wont to be in the 19th. Century), as always.
Now we need to whip around our rowdy lot and see about expanding the muster roll.

I should be cleaning up my tintype equipment tomorrow and fixing the dark slide, hopefully I'll be able to make some work on Sunday. Also, I've been putting together a small collection of regiments and companies present at Antietam from the Perry Miniature range. Again, I'll see about putting some pictures up here this weekend. Might even try and squeeze in the painting of a test figure too.

Regards,
Leifr.

Little Willy. Gods damn. I'm never shaking that, ever. Drat.I blame Master Digby. He suggested that perhaps 'Willy' would be a more Americanised shortening of William without resorting to Bill. The 'Little' came naturally, of course.

Many thanks and many more times over. The credit is due to Mr Flockton (or Mr Frederiksen, as he is wont to be in the 19th. Century), as always.A pleasure, as always.

Willy and Bill is cool, you can refer to me as Bill and keep the Willy for kicks, it's why I went with Will as it were the name of my Granddad William, known to all as Bill.

Morning.
I suppose with the advent of the forthcoming company tool, it would be worth our time to put out feelers for interested parties. We are seeking responsible and mature players over the age of 21 who are willing themselves towards a genial and largely affable group of seasoned friends. There are zero obligations here other than to 'not be a dick', although we do have our moments internally.

For the promise of brevity, I have lifted the below from the original post of this thread - it's about as good a summary as any other.

As a group of players and friends we stretch back almost a decade now, some marginally longer. The ethos and methods have always been the same regardless of theater; from our 'Hćringar (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,232289.0.html)' motley band within Víkingr, our infamous namesakes 'The Lucky Dogs (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,217806.0.html)' and their associate mercenaries 'The Hoary Hounds (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,307198.0.html)' and finally through to 'No.504 Squadron (https://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,316379.0.html) in IL2, roleplay and character fulfillment (however light as with Warband, or heavy with IL2) always takes precedence on the field. Well, that and copious amounts of alcohol. There's no forum, no weekly drill sessions or roll-call checklists of attendance - just a group of lads playing video games together and having fun.

Feel free to write a PM with queries - cheers!

Well, this sucks, shame about those other fellas, you chaps put a lot of time into this thread/regiment. At least we get to see the magic once more for another regiment I guess.

I know I can't offer much for your loss. You were cheated by a bunch of liars with no honourable intentions. I hope you will be able to over come this set back!

Continue to wear your tags with pride on these forums. You are the true Company A of the 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment!

I don't know the specifics but there's nothing stopping people from forming companies without have forum recruitment threads. No need to bring out the name calling.

I do feel your guys' pain though. Hopefully you'll settle on another company. :)

Thank you for the sentiment, Bravescot, it is appreciated. It is a shame that both I & Leifr spent so much time preparing the thread, creating the graphics, researching the 19th & Co. A and their role in the Maryland Campaign, and that it has gone to waste. The aspect that I dislike most is that we were let by down other members of the community, with whom we had a gentleman's accord over Co. A. Of course nothing was concrete until the Company Tool was released and companies could be registered, but we felt we'd chosen a regiment with a good, solid history in the Maryland Campaign, and were confident we'd go ahead with this identity knowing that those who now have Co. A would form Co. B and we'd have the chance to work with them on the battlefield. Now that has been dashed by their determination to have the Co. A identity, we'll forge a new one, from a different regiment that participated in the Campaign. We'll soldier on as always and do what we do best.

Onwards and forwards Trusty, always! This is but a minor setback and really simply a gross inconvenience. We have something in the pipeline already.

Warmest regards, Leifr.
