The 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment was formed during May 1861, under Lt. Col. J B Strange. Raised in Albemarle, Amherst & Nelson counties of Virginia, it was initially assigned to Camp Pickens at Manassas Junction, and took part in the First Battle of Manassas, although the regiment hardly fired a shot. The 19th Va. served actively throughout the conflict, fighting in most of the major engagements of the Eastern theatre; Seven Pines, Gaines' Mill, Second Manassas, Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, and on until 6th April 1865, when the regiment was surprised by Union cavalry and surrendered en masse rather than face annihilation. The 19th Va. spent the early part of the war as part of Pickett's (later Garnett's) Brigade. During the infamous Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg, the 19th Va. managed to reach the stone wall defended by the 69th Massachusetts, succeeding in pushing the Union soldiers back, although they were unable to advance beyond the wall. It was at Gettysburg that the colour of the 19th Va. was captured by members of the 19th Massachusetts as the battle died down. Realising the irony of meeting another regiment with the same number, the 19th Mas. cut out the '19th' from the 19th Va. flag and stitched it to their own.
The 19th Va. entered the Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg with around 50 men, having lost a large number of men through straggling. On the morning of the 17th September, Garnett's Brigade (in Jone's Division) was ordered to relieve Anderson's Brigade and support the Washington Artillery on Cemetery Hill. The brigade was steadily bombarded by Federal gunners and, during the afternoon, was advanced to engage elements of Sykes Division, which had crossed the creek and begun an assault on the hill. By 1530, after holding their position for two hours, the brigade was ordered to retreat as Union forces had almost surrounded their position. Reforming in front of Sharpsburg, Garnett's Brigade, along with Drayton's, supported Hill's Light Division as it flanked the Union battleline.

The 'virtual' 19th Virginia Volunteer Infantry Regiment is the War of Rights persona for the Lucky Dogs, a group of friends who've been gaming & socialising together for the past four years. As a group we have been active across a wide variety of multiplayer games; Mount&Blade: Warband (vanilla plus mods: Vikingr, The Deluge & others), ArmA2 & 3 (& DayZ), IL2 Sturmovik games (notably Cliffs of Dover), Naval Action & others. Whilst not a large group, it is certainly a close one. Geographically the group is primarily European, but we do have members further afield (including a true Virginian, no less!).
Our group prides itself on our combined interest in history and take pains to get the units/personas we represent 'right'. As such with our approach to representing Company A of the 19th Va. we will be looking to bring as close a representation to Confederate line infantry as possible, whilst enjoying ourselves at the same time. We are a very relaxed group who like to avoid the strict nature of many clans. We don't really bother too much with strict training, and our officers/NCOs take up their positions voluntarily as a means of giving direction for our other members to enhance their experience, rather than to achieve gratification through a virtual 'rank'.
For the moment we are not recruiting, as we are waiting for a point nearer to the release of War of Rights before we (potentially) open our doors.
