If you could talk to your ancestors that fought in the war what would you say?
Please feel free to post pictures of your ancestors with background information.
I got this idea from Major Hiram Lee.

I'd ask my x4great uncle what it was like being new to the nation and being thrown into combat at 17 years old. How his new nation compared to that of Norway and if he was happy with it.
I wouldn't expect too much insight due to him being killed at on the first day of the battle of Stones River when he was only 17.

If I could talk to my 2nd cousin (my avatar) I would ask him what it was like to lead his men into battle and know great people such as Major General Joseph Kershaw and Brigadier General John Kennedey, and what it was like being in old South Carolina.
"If we were wrong in our contest, then the Declaration of Independence of 1776 was a grave mistake and the revolution to which it led was a crime. If Washington was a patriot; Lee cannot have been a rebel."
"I want you to try to teach to your children and to your children's children that ours was not a lost cause. I want you to tell them that we were fighting for the right ..."
Wade Hampton III
I would thank my uncle that died at 2nd Manassas for giving his all for Dixie and I would ask him what it was like serving under Gen. Stonewall Jackson. I wouls thank his brother and my three cousins for going all the way and serving until the end of the War. Then I would ask what it was like to return home and go through Reconstruction.

All of your ancestor's would have lots of stories to tell.
I wouldn't think it to be wise to ask a veteran what a battle was like.
Too many bad memories.

I would ask my third times great grandfather what life was like back then.

We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne’er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;- William Shakespeare, Henry V
