I'd ask my x4great uncle what it was like being new to the nation and being thrown into combat at 17 years old. How his new nation compared to that of Norway and if he was happy with it.
I wouldn't expect too much insight due to him being killed at on the first day of the battle of Stones River when he was only 17.

If I could talk to my 2nd cousin (my avatar) I would ask him what it was like to lead his men into battle and know great people such as Major General Joseph Kershaw and Brigadier General John Kennedey, and what it was like being in old South Carolina.

I would thank my uncle that died at 2nd Manassas for giving his all for Dixie and I would ask him what it was like serving under Gen. Stonewall Jackson. I wouls thank his brother and my three cousins for going all the way and serving until the end of the War. Then I would ask what it was like to return home and go through Reconstruction.
